SENATOR MENENDEZ ANNOUNCES $705,122 IN ASSISTANCE FOR NEW JERSEY FIREFIGHTERS

WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Senator Menendez announced that the Department of Homeland Security has awarded $705,122 in competitive grants to three New Jersey fire departments. Awarded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and administered in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration, these grants will be used by the departments to enhance their capacity to protect the public and first responders from fire related hazards and support their emergency response needs. These funds are part of round 42 of the competitive FY 2008 Fire Grant announcements.

“Everyday our firefighters are willing to risk their lives for our families, our homes, and our communities.” said Senator Menendez. “It is our responsibility to provide them with the necessary support and resources to ensure that they can protect themselves and do their job as effectively as possible. These investments are vital to safety in our neighborhoods and for our first responders.”
 The $705,122 in funding will be distributed as follows:
 
Bridgeton, NJ

•       $74,813 awarded to Fairfield Volunteer Fire Company
#2 (Gouldtown)
East Rutherford, NJ

•       $388,960
awarded to the East Rutherford Fire Department

Hi-Nella, NJ

•       $241,349
warded to the Hi-Nella Fire Company #1
