SENATOR GORDON SWORN-IN TO SERVE IN STATE SENATE

TRENTON – Today, Senator Bob Gordon was sworn-in to serve as State Senator from the 38th Legislative District, and said that he will continue to uphold the tradition of public service set forth by his predecessor, retiring Senator Joseph Coniglio, D-Bergen.

“Every day of his legislative career, Senator Coniglio sought to help the people of Bergen County in whatever way he could,” said Senator Gordon, D-Bergen. “I consider Joe a personal friend, and I look forward to continuing his work on behalf of the constituents in the 38th Legislative District in the State Senate.”

Senator Gordon previously served in the Assembly since 2004, and was a member of the Assembly Appropriations Committee, the Health and Senior Services Committee, and served as Vice Chair of the Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee.

“Whether it’s the quality of our air, land and water, the security of our finances, or the health and well-being of our State’s residents, we have so many issues to tackle in the upcoming legislative session,” said Senator Gordon. “It’s going to be a lot of work, but I will give it my all, for my constituents and the entire Garden State.”

Senator Gordon began his life in public service by working as an intern for Congressman Robert Roe and in the White House. He also served as an analyst for the U.S. Congressional Budget Office, and, in the 1990’s as an aide to then-Governor Jim Florio.

In addition, Senator Gordon served as mayor of Fair Lawn Borough from 1986 to 1995, where he developed a reputation for acting as a maverick, willing to put the needs of his residents ahead of the party line. He said that he will continue to follow his conscience, and work for the best interests of the people who elected him to serve.

“Government should be about meeting the needs of the people it represents, not party lines or political ideologies,” said Senator Gordon. “Throughout my public service career, I’ve strived to live up to that idea, and I promise that my only motivation during my time in the State Senate will be what’s best for my constituents and the citizens of New Jersey.”
