TRENTON – Senate President Richard J. Codey (D-Essex) today issued the following statement on the Senate’s passage of the $29 billion FY 2010 Appropriations Act:
“What we have accomplished here in New Jersey is nothing short of a minor miracle when you consider the drastic actions other states have been forced to take.
“In the midst of a global recession, New Jersey has been prudent in trimming the fat, while still providing vital services that honor our core values. The end result is a lean, but exact budget that protects seniors and the disabled, enhances education for our children, and provides much-need healthcare and much-deserved property tax relief. And thanks to the wise decision to conduct a tax amnesty program, we have been able to expand property tax relief for more of our hardworking residents.
“When you couple this with the numerous economic stimulus efforts we have passed since the fall, New Jersey is in an enviable position amongst other states. I want to thank the Governor for his foresight in preparing New Jersey to weather this economic storm and come out on top.”
