February 17, 2009; Elk Township – Today Elk Township Mayor Phil Barbaro, Deputy Mayor Tony Creta and Township Committeeman Bill Rainey joined Wenonah Mayor Capaldi, Franklin Township Mayor Petsch and Greenwich Township Mayor Shivery in their call for Gloucester County GOP Chairwoman Loran Oglesby to resign her post immediately.
Mayor Barbaro said, “Typically speaking we don’t get involved in the drama that sometimes surrounds Chairwoman Oglesby. We sat quiet after she publicly criticized Committeeman Rainey but this situation is vastly different. If she fights this movement all the way to the June reorganization she will tear this Party apart. I join my fellow mayors in calling for Chairwoman Oglesby to resign immediately.”
“We have remained quiet to this point because the County GOP under Chairwoman Oglesby’s leadership honestly has no relationship with the Elk Township GOP,” added Deputy Mayor Creta. “It is unfortunate that it has come to this but it has become painfully obvious that Ms. Oglesby must resign immediately if our Party is going to have a chance at survival much less winning any election in 2009. The stakes are too high to allow Chairwoman Oglesby to continue fighting to protect the chairmanship. For the sake of Party unity she must resign immediately.”
Township Committeeman Rainey stated, “I have remained silent to this point because I did not want it to appear as though I was retaliating against Ms. Oglesby for the unkind things she said about me during the last election. The public outcry is bigger than that issue. Chairwoman Oglesby needs to resign immediately so the Party can begin the process of rebuilding and healing old wounds. I sincerely hope she does what is best for our Party and agree with Mayor Capaldi, Mayor Petsch, Mayor Shivery, the former candidates and now Mayor Barbaro and Deputy Mayor Creta in their call for Loran Oglesby to resign now.
