The government actions to shore up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are supported by Roland Straten, Republican candidate for Congress in New Jersey's 8th District, as necessary to stabilize markets.
"The spirit of home ownership in America is central to our society," says Straten. "When people own a home, in addition to providing for family life, it gives them more of a stake in the success of our democracy."
Straten, however, would like to see more of the details of the government's actions come to light.
"It’s important that the government not be in the business of bailing out Wall Street speculators, says Straten". “Our free enterprise system rewards those who take risks and they have to absorb the downside, as well. The taxpayers should not have to foot the bill."
Roland Straten is a native of Wayne and a 39-year resident of Montclair, Straten served as a Naval Officer in the Vietnam War and was President of Associated Fire Protection in Paterson before deciding he wanted to serve the people of the Eighth District in Congress. Straten has served as chair of the Paterson Economic Development Corporation and as a Commissioner on the New Jersey Fire Commission.
