Roland Straten, Republican candidate for Congress from New Jersey's Eighth District successfully kicked off his "Rolland Rollin On To Congress" trek today. Straten started his tour in the northern most part of the district at the Pompton Lakes-Wanaque border accompanied by his trademark "Rollin On To Congress" billboard.
This fist leg took him through downtown Pompton Lakes and quickly attracted attention from residents and the local media. "It was a great start", says Straten. "We talked to a lot of voters concerned that for too long the really important issues like energy independence, high taxes and education have been ignored. My opponent would just continue the same failed policies. In contrast, I will bring the experience from thirty-seven years of running a successful business to bring the necessary change to what is going on in Washington today.
The next leg of the "Roland Rollin On To Congress" trip will take Straten through sections of Wayne. Straten plans on walking across the entire Eighth District ending in South Orange by Election Day. "We're just getting warmed up," said Straten.
Roland Straten is a native of Wayne and a 39-year resident of Montclair. Straten served as a Naval Officer in the Vietnam War and was President of Associated Fire Protection in Paterson before deciding he wanted to serve the people of the Eighth District in Congress. Straten has served as chair of the Paterson Economic Development Corporation and as a Commissioner on the New Jersey Fire Commission.
