STRATEN CALLS ON PASCRELL TO DROP HOUSE SEAT IF HE WANTS TO RUN FOR GOVERNOR

PATERSON,NJ -Congressman Bill Pascrell's comments that he would likely run for Governor if Governor Corzine decided to forego re-election shows "a blatant disregard for the voters of the 8th district," says Roland Straten, Republican candidate for Congress from Passaic and Essex Counties. Straten stated, “There is no way Mr. Pascrell can be an effective member of Congress and run for Governor at the same time. He should resign his House seat now if he intends on running for Governor.” Straten noted that when Pascrell stepped down as the Mayor of Paterson to run for Congress, he left the city with an out-of-control unemployment rate that was more than twice the national average.  Straten concluded, “Each time Bill Pascrell faces a tough challenge, he tries to move on to another office. In 1996, with a booming economy at his back, he was not able to bring prosperity to his Paterson so he ran for Congress. Pascrell knows he is on the wrong side of the issues for the people in the Eighth District, so he is hoping to move to Trenton.”

Roland Straten grew up in Belleville and Wayne and is a 39-year resident of Montclair. Roland served as a Naval Officer in the Vietnam War and was the head of Associated Fire Protection in Paterson before deciding he wanted to serve the people of the Eighth District as their next Congressman. Roland has served as chair of the Paterson Economic Development Corporation and as a Commissioner on the New Jersey Fire Commission.
