katrina
I am sure the GOP is not complaining that Bush and Cheney are a no-show. but the the specter of Katrina looms so largely has to be a sub-conscious theme that permeates this convention.... because of Gustav. The best they can do is make Lemonade and hope that's what the country is thirstin' for.
Tornoe's good though. gotta give him that much.
OH YEAH
It's a BIG favor to McCain. It gets Bush and Cheney out of the convention where they'd be a prime time reminder of 8 failed years.
But in the long run anything that gives McCain fewer veiwers is not good for him. A curtailed convention means fewer people watch McCain and his daughter--oops, I mean running mate--give what for candidates is the showcase speech.
The concern McCain is showing for the hurricane could be a short bounce for him but MissCookie is right that it also reminds people of the unconscionable response to Katrina.
And they attacked Obama in Germany for looking too presidential but now McCain is getting weather briefings and touring sites as though he were the guy in charge. Very transparent; candidates have no business bothering anyone whose job it is to deal with the hurricane.
INDY
"And they attacked Obama in Germany for looking too presidential but now McCain is getting weather briefings and touring sites as though he were the guy in charge.
Wrong, it makes John McCain look ready to lead and makes Barack Obama look like a greenhorn who'd rather waste camapign funds giving speeches in Berlin while giving out out free beer to German teenagers in a shallow attempt to show Americans how much he's "loved in Europe".
Hell, if Obama offered me free beer, I'd take it too! Even though I'm more of a merlot drinker myself.
Furthermore, Louisiana is a safe red state and will remain that way come November.

UH HUH
No it makes McCain ready to go get a photo op wherever it might do him so good.
And oymylord what would be so bad about having a president who was respected in other parts of the world? Bush makes us forget such a thing is even possible.
Your Louisiana red state remark makes no sense. Obviously the pictures of McCain are shown all over the land and what he's doing isn't just aimed at getting votes in obe state. Is it too much to ask that you think a minute before pounding the keyboard? We have time; we can wait for you to think it through.
