ROBERTS STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR CORZINE'S STATE OF THE STATE ADDRESS

ROBERTS STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR CORZINE'S STATE OF THE STATE ADDRESS

(TRENTON) - Assembly Speaker Joseph J. Roberts, Jr., today issued the following statement on Governor Jon Corzine's first State of the State address:

"Governor Corzine today delivered a sober, no-nonsense plan to deal with fiscal problems that have been ignored in this state for too long.

"I like the fact that the plan deals with budget discipline -- spending only what we take in, getting the budget committee involved early on in the process before a budget is presented, and having the voters authorize debt going forward.

"The Governor was transparent and straightforward in presenting his fiscal restructuring plan.  He outlined all the details.  He talked about the toll impacts, short-term and long-term.

"I associate myself with the idea that everyone should take a look at this and if they have a better alternative, then bring it on."
