ROBERTS ON SCHIP VETO OVERRIDE VOTE:
PRESIDENT BUSH HURTS NEW JERSEY AGAIN

(TRENTON) - Assembly Speaker Joseph J. Roberts, Jr., today issued the following statement in response to the failure of New Jersey's Republican congressional delegation to vote unanimously for an override of President Bush's veto of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) reauthorization bill:

"It's inexcusable that any New Jersey congressman would take sides with President Bush over the medical care needs of children whose families cannot afford health insurance.

"This is a misguided  achievement for President Bush. The results of this failed veto override will be diminished health care access for New Jersey children and higher long-term health care costs for New Jersey taxpayers."
