Senator Anthony Bucco (R-25) slammed New Jersey Policy Perspective for its recently released report that said increasing the gas tax 20 cents, hiking fees for driver’s licenses, doubling registration fees for new cars and boosting a tax on expensive vehicles would help solve New Jersey’s fiscal crisis.
"New Jersey Policy Perspective, like Governor Corzine, is going about this all wrong," stated Bucco. "New Jersey should be looking at ways to cut spending, not searching for ways to increase taxes."
New Jersey Policy Perspective is a liberal think tank established in 1997. Jon Shure, president of NJPP, was the Communications Director for Governor Jim Florio who notoriously increased taxes $2.8 billion while in office. Mr. Shure was also the architect of former Governor Jim McGreevey’s "millionaires" tax that was supposed to solve New Jersey’s property tax dilemma.
"Mr. Shure and New Jersey Policy Perspective have never met a tax hike they didn’t like," continued Bucco. "They both advocate a liberal agenda based on the belief that increasing taxes is always the best solution to every problem. I, along with my Republican colleagues, will continue to opposes the Governor’s toll hike scheme and any other form of tax increase and aggressively advocate for substantial spending cuts instead."
