REAL BERGEN DEMOCRATS KICK OFF CAMPAIGN
ENGLEWOOD - At a jam packed headquarters opening on Thursday, Senator Loretta Weinberg, Assemblyman Gordon Johnson and Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle kicked off their campaign surrounded by hundreds of enthusiastic grass and net roots Democrats.
The three candidates spoke to their records of helping people by focusing on the issues that matter most to those they serve. Senator Weinberg received loud applause when she highlighted her record forcing insurance companies pay for at least 48 hours of care for new moms and their babies. Assemblyman Johnson got an enthusiastic response when he talked about taking on the Bush administration in order to provide New Jersey with more affordable housing. Assemblywoman Huttle was greeted with heartfelt cheers when she described bringing home real property tax relief for the middle class, seniors and renters.
The event, held at the same time as the closed-door meeting of the Bergen County Democratic Organization, reflected the diversity and depth of the district-wide support for the Weinberg, Johnson and Huttle team. The campaign attracted national support from the respected Democracy for America organization, represented by Jim Dean the brother of Howard Dean, the Chair of the Democratic National Committee.
Weinberg, Johnson and Huttle are basing their campaign on the support of grass and net roots Democrats across the 37th District. Representatives of labor, environmental, health care, human rights and other groups that make up the heart and soul of the Democratic Party attended the campaign kick off as the first step in winning the June 5th Primary.
