QUESTIONS FOR THE TAX-HIKING TWOSOME

Questions for the Tax-Hiking Twosome

Propp and Griffin challenge Conaway and Conners to explain their record of increasing taxes

Burlington—  As Assemblymen Herb Conaway and Jack Conners refuse to explain to the public their rationale for supporting over 90 tax increases, 7th District Assembly candidates Brian Propp and Nancy Griffin asked the following questions of their opponents.

(6)  Do you know a better way to get in shape than going to the gym, or did you really mean to tax people who are trying to stay healthy?  (Sales Tax Expansion on Membership Fees, 2004, A-4901)

(5)  They say that talk is cheap.  Do you have a problem with that, or did you really just want to tax telephones?  (Phone Tax, 2004, A-3112)

(4)  Did you think that, by increasing taxes on business, they would somehow be scared into creating jobs?  (CBT Increase 2002, A-2504; CBT Surcharge, 2006, A-4706; CBT Minimum Payment, 2006, A-4706)

(Assemblyman Conaway: Does this mean that you’d like to pay everyone to stay home, not just the people that found work due to the River Line?)

(3)  We all know how high energy costs are.  By taxing energy bills, are we being told to “Suck it up”? (Energy Tax, 2003, S-3000)

(2) How does taxing insurance premiums make it easier for the uninsured to

afford healthcare? (Health Care Taxes, 2006, A-4716; 2005, A-4402; 2004, A-3116)

(1)  HOW DOES SUPPORTING OVER 90 TAX INCREASES MAKE NEW JERSEY MORE AFFORDABLE?

“Every vote to increase taxes that Conaway and Conners have cast was a vote to make New Jersey less affordable for working families,” said Brian Propp.  “Nancy and I have taken a pledge to oppose ANY tax increase, and we’ll keep that promise to the taxpayers.”

“Our plan for affordability will make government live within its means, not gouge the taxpayers every time the State must make tough choices,” said Nancy Griffin.  “You can’t make New Jersey more affordable by hiking taxes year after year to pay for more wasteful spending.  Enough is enough.”  ####
