Having ethically challenged New York Congressman Charles Rangel as the "Guest of Honor" at Bill Pascrell's pre-election gala tonight sends the worst message says Roland Straten, Republican Congressional Candidate from NJ's 8th district.
"Congressman Rangel is currently under investigation by the House Ethics Committee after some serious allegations of wrong doing," says Straten.
"I guess Mr. Pascrell does not agree that ethics are important to the voters of New Jersey."
Investigators are looking into Rangel's failure to pay taxes for 20 years on more than $75,000 in rental income from a villa he owns in the Dominican Republic while paying no interest on the Villa's mortgage. There are also probes into him leasing four rent stabilized apartments in Harlem – one of which he used as a campaign office despite laws against doing so.
"Maybe Mr. Pascrell thinks this kind of stuff is status quo for elected officials who go to Washington. I beg to differ." Says Straten. "He should be demanding that Rangel step down as Chairman of the House Ways and means Committee, not making him the 'guest of honor' at his campaign gala."
