LAUTENBERG, MENENDEZ ANNOUNCE MORE THAN $450K FOR ROAD UPGRADES IN NORTH JERSEY
Grants Will Help Improve Safety on Main Street in Lodi & South Orange Avenue
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sens. Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Robert Menendez (D-NJ) today announced the Federal Highway Administration will award more than $450,000 in grants for upgrades to roads in Bergen and Essex Counties.
“With more and more cars on New Jersey’s roads, we need to do all we can to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers,” Sen. Lautenberg said. “These funds help Lodi and South Orange make critical improvements to their roads and I will continue to fight for funding that improves safety and eases congestion on our roadways.”
“These improvements will benefit Rt. 46 drivers who rely on this essential major roadway,” said Sen. Menendez. “It is important to keep up with Bergen and Essex County’s growth. These improvements will enhance the safety and quality of life in these ever-changing New Jersey commercial and residential areas.”
The two roads will receive a total of $451,290 in federal funding:
* $225,645 for Route 46/Main Street in Lodi to eliminate flooding on the street; replace two bridges; and add four ramps, two auxiliary lanes and two traffic signals. The grant will also be used for utility work, environmental related work and modifications to driveway access; and
* $225,645 for South Orange Avenue in Essex County to replace existing traffic control devices and to improve sight distance, traffic signs and roadway stripes.
