Lautenberg, Menendez Announce More Than $1.3 Million for Four New Jersey Airports
Grants Will Help Improve Airport Infrastructure and Safety for Pilots and Fliers Across Garden State

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Robert Menendez (D-NJ) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has awarded more than $1,300,000 in grants to four New Jersey airports.  Airports in the towns of Cape May, Millville and Princeton, and in Essex County, will receive these USDOT funds for safety upgrades, master planning and infrastructure improvements.  These grants will help modernize the airports, and help protect fliers and the surrounding communities.

“New Jersey’s smaller airports are critical to our state’s aviation system—and we need to modernize them so they can meet the future’s travel and public safety demands,” Senator Frank R. Lautenberg said.  “Whether you’re flying for business, recreation, or to serve a public service such as firefighting or air ambulances, pilots and fliers deserve the most safety we can provide.”

“Having an air traffic system that flows as safely and efficiently as possible is important for the well-being of the flying public and for commerce in these tough economic times,” said Sen. Menendez. “These funds will help improve the aviation system in New Jersey.”

The four airports will receive a total of $1,318,518:

* Cape May Airport will receive $673,625 to remove obstructions and make drainage improvements.  By removal these obstructions around runways, the airport will be safer for incoming and departing planes.

* Millville Municipal Airport will receive $534,480 to construct a new taxiway and modernize and existing one, improve a Runway Safety Area and remove other obstructions that cause safety hazards.

* Essex County Airport will receive $80,750 to update the Airport Master Plan to include an aviation demand and a better guide of future development on the airport.

* Princeton Airport will receive $29,663 for snow removal equipment, which will keep the airport safer during winter weather.

This is the second major grant award to New Jersey’s airports in two days.  On Thursday, Lautenberg and Menendez announced more than $1,890,000 in federal grants to airports in the towns of Lakewood, Linden, Morristown, Ocean City and Toms River.  For more information on those grants, visit: http://www.lautenberg.senate.gov/newsroom/recor...&.
