PEACE ACTION, CITING IRAQ WAR OPPOSITION, ENDORSES LAUTENBERG FOR SENATE

Peace Action, Citing Iraq War Opposition, Endorses Lautenberg for Senate
Nation's Largest Grassroots Peace Network Cites Sen. Lautenberg's Strong Record Against War

Peace Action today announced they are endorsing Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg for re-election, citing his efforts to promote peace and his repeated votes to bring our troops home from Iraq.

"As the nation's largest grassroots peace organization, Peace Action is proud to endorse Senator Lautenberg for his long-time efforts to bring our troops home from Iraq, stop new nuclear weapons from being developed and his strong voting record," said Paul Kawika Martin, Political Director for Peace Action.

"I am proud to accept the endorsement of Peace Action and its members.  I have voted repeatedly over the years to bring our troops home from Iraq and will not stop fighting the Bush Administration until our men and women in uniform are home safe with their families," said Sen. Lautenberg.

Peace Action is the nation's largest grassroots peace network, with chapters and affiliates in 30 states.  The group works through write-in campaigns, internet actions, citizen lobbying and direct action with progressive members of Congress to push forward peace legislation.

Peace Action's New Jersey affiliates are New Jersey Peace Action and Coalition for Peace Action.

"The Peace Action endorsement of Senator Frank Lautenberg is a proud tribute to his decades long connection to the peace movement in New Jersey," said Madelyn Hoffman, Director of NJ Peace Action. "From the eighties through the present, Senator Lautenberg has consistently voted against policies that would lead to an accelerated nuclear arms race and the increased dangers and global unrest that would stem from the use and production of nuclear weapons."

"Senator Lautenberg has been a strong ally in advocating peace since he was first elected to the Senate. He has supported all the major initiatives of the peace movement since then, including the nuclear weapons freeze, and opposition to the first and second Iraq wars. He not only supports, but leads by speaking on the Senate floor and co-sponsoring peace legislation. I'm therefore pleased to offer my endorsement for the re-election of Senator Frank Lautenberg," said Rev. Robert Moore, Executive Director of the Princeton-based Coalition for Peace Action.
