Bloomberg to endorse Shulman

None of the presidential candidates could win his endorsement, but an up-‘til-recently long-shot Congressional candidate just did.

Fresh off his City Council legislative victory that will allow him to run for another term, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will endorse Democrat Dennis Shulman in the 5th Congressional District today.

Bloomberg and Shulman plan a conference call with reporters at 9 a.m. to discuss it.

It’s not yet known whether Bloomberg will cross the river to campaign for Shulman, or whether he’ll cut any ads for him.  He did film a commercial for embattled Republican Christopher Shays (R-Conn.) last week, but it may be a little late in the game to count on that kind of committment.

Dictator from the NYC endorses ... who?

Mayor Bloomberg, a Republican turned independent turned a Dictator, of New York City endorsed Maurice Chulman. I wonder why? What is the mayor of NYC doing in New Jersey? Unless, Bloomberg wants to be another Rudy. However, Rudy skipped the independent and dictatorial parts of Bloomberg biography. No wonder you have to worry about Bloomberg’s mental health.

That's because Shulman backs the NYC Rail Tunnel

The tunnel NJ tollpayers will fund that will solely benefit New York's economy. New York gets the income taxes from New Jerseyans who work across the river. NJ gets squat.

I don't think anyone in New Jersey cares what the Mayor of New York thinks, just as no one really cares what the New York Times thinks either -- except negatively. Bloomberg's endorsement of Shulman will help Garrett.

garrett...

is an extremist who voters are getting to know more and more...one of mccain's former political advisers called him a nut...enough said

hahaha...your joking right?

Mountaintop....are you really serious that bloomberg's endorsement will help Garrett? you can't be right?

Bloomberg is a moderate republican whos own ideologies fall very closely in line with most republicans in the district. Garrett has been elected 3 times not because 5th district republicans fall closely in line with him ideology wise but because of their unwillingness to elect a Democrat. In a year like this that is becoming less and less the case and you will see more republicans and dems vote for democrats. The real big county in this race is Bergen, it represents 65% of the district and is populated about equally with Republicans and Democrats with a strong base of Independents. Many of these people in Bergen work in the city and most people read the papers from the city, despite bloomberg's distasteful coup many people look on him approvingly. All it takes is 57% in Bergen County and then Dennis can afford to post numbers as low as 35% in all the other counties. I'm not saying this endorsement is a game changer...but it certainly doesn't help Garrett.

PS...the same poll that showed Garrett up 15 points last month shows him up only 5 now...change is coming I hope you are all ready for it.

If you think Bloomberg's radical views match the people in the district you are as delusional as Shulman.

Bloomberg's endorsement is as relevant as the Bergen Record's or the New York Times. It's only a negative, not a positive. No one is going to vote for Shulman because some guy from New York City tells them to -- especially the Mayor.

Giuliani's endorsement for Cuomo in 1994 is what put Pataki over the top. Look at the upstate counties that backed Clinton in 1992 and gave Cuomo 20% of the vote two years later for the effect of the Giuliani endorsement. And Giuliani could actually VOTE in that election.

Seriously...

I understand we all have political parties that we are faithful too, but no one should be defending Garnett. That man is crazy.

Thank you very much
