Democrats Burn Rubber To Pass 800% Toll Hike
Senator Anthony R. Bucco (R-Morris) issued the following statement on the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee hearing on the Governor’s 800% road tax scheme:
"Once again, the Trenton Democrats have insisted on rushing a major public policy issue through the legislative process without the benefit of a deliberative and public process. Like the hurried and opaque process used for the school funding legislation, Senators are supposed to consider all the implications of a proposed 800% road tax without actually seeing the proposed legislation in a timely manner.
"If the Trenton Democrats truly want to incur nearly $40 billion in new debt and pay for it through crushing toll hikes aimed at the middle class and small businesses, then they should put a bill before this committee. Holding a hearing on little more than the Governor’s speech and a power point presentation is not a deliberative process, and the legislative leadership should not hide behind today’s hearing as an excuse to short circuit the public debate on this issue in order to comply with the Governor‘s artificial March deadline.
"Instead of suppressing free speech by ordering the arrest of their political opponents, the Corzine Administration should concentrate on getting a bill before this committee. The legislative leadership should demand nothing less."

“She has already chosen the interests of the insurance industry over the health care needs of working people, she took millions from Wall Street as the economy went into a meltdown, and now she wants to purchase a job in Congress at a time when so many have lost their jobs because of the actions of big bankers and others." -- Monmouth County Democrats spokesman Mike Mangan, on Republican Diane Gooch, who is challenging U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone.
