Lisa P. Jackson today addressed over 100 women as the keynote speaker at a luncheon hosted by Senator M. Teresa Ruiz (D-Newark), Assemblywoman L. Grace Spencer (D-Newark) and the Democratic State Committee’s “Yes We Can 2.0” (YWC 2.0) to show support for the re-election of Governor Jon S. Corzine, the election of the State’s first Lieutenant Governor Loretta Weinberg and Democrats across New Jersey.
Over 100 women from across the State attended the luncheon held at Opcao Café in the city of Newark to welcome Lisa Jackson back to the State of New Jersey. Jackson previously served as Governor Corzine’s chief of staff as well as commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
“I am thrilled to join women from across New Jersey who took time out of their busy lives today to support the re-election efforts of Jon Corzine and Democrats across the State,” said Jackson. “I am proud to support Jon Corzine because he stands for what matters most to New Jersey’s working families. Today, I am joining women of all backgrounds from every area of the State who recognize that Jon Corzine and Loretta Weinberg are fighting for the issues that are critical to women everywhere; from access to quality health care including mammograms and hospital stays for new mothers to quality education for our children.”
Senator Ruiz and Assemblywoman Spencer said they were proud to co-host the event with YWC 2.0 and said they were eager to welcome Jackson back to New Jersey for an event focused on energizing women across the State to secure Democratic Victory this November 3. Ruiz and Spencer highlighted Democrats’ grassroots efforts to reach women, minorities, young voters and even first-time voters through community-based events held in neighborhoods across the State.
“Governor Corzine refuses to back away from the tough decisions required to do what’s right for communities across the State,” said Ruiz, co-chair for Victory 09’ Campaign. “Even in difficult economic times, Jon Corzine has delivered for New Jersey families on what matters most by expanding access to healthcare for over 100,000 more children, making paid family leave the law and continuing to invest in education. I am proud to stand with Grace Spencer and Lisa Jackson today to call for all New Jersey women to support the Corzine/Weinberg ticket.”
“Jon Corzine and Democrats know the power of women voters,” said Spencer. “Women historically have been a significant force in the election of Democrats and this year we are making even greater outreach efforts than ever before to engage even more New Jersey women because this is a critical election for the future of working families and our state. Our voices count and by supporting Governor Corzine we can make certain that President Barack Obama has a partner in New Jersey who fights for the values that matter most in our communities across New Jersey.”
