(ASBURY PARK) - Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell joined Newark Mayor Cory Booker and hundreds of supporters today at a rally at the Westfield Community Center in Asbury Park to energize support for the re-election of Governor Jon S. Corzine, the election of Senator Loretta Weinberg as the State’s first Lieutenant Governor and Democrats up and down the ballot.
“When it comes to fighting for what matters to hard working families across New Jersey Jon Corzine’s record is unmatched,” said Rendell, two-term Democratic governor of Pennsylvania. “During the past four years Jon Corzine has worked for all of the same priorities we’ve been fighting for in Pennsylvania. Under Jon Corzine’s leadership, more than 100,000 children have access to health care and New Jersey is one of the first states in the nation to make paid family leave the law.”
“Jon Corzine has been leading the way for all New Jersey residents,” said Mayor Booker. “This election comes down to supporting a Governor who fights for what is right and what matters most for the state. Governor Corzine's leadership and ability to make tough decisions that benefit New Jersey families, is what matters most.”
Edward G. Rendell is currently serving his second term as Pennsylvania’s 45th Governor. As Governor of the nation’s sixth most-populous state, Rendell has taken extraordinary steps to revitalize Pennsylvania’s economy, strengthen education and expand access to health care for all children.
Rendell and Booker are the latest high-profile Democrats to hit the campaign trail in support of Corzine’s bid for re-election. Earlier this week, President Barack Obama, President Bill Clinton, Vice President Joseph R. Biden and Caroline Kennedy headlined events across the State to increase growing support for Governor Corzine, Lieutenant Gubernatorial Candidate Loretta Weinberg and Democrats across New Jersey.
Rendell also headlined a rally in Atlantic City in support of the Corzine/Weinberg and Democratic ticket. More than one hundred supporters, activists and volunteers attended the rally later in the day hosted by Atlantic City Mayor Lorenzo Langford.
