PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON CAMPAIGNS IN SUPPORT
OF CORZINE/WEINBERG & DEMOCRATS ACROSS NJ

(NEW BRUNSWICK) – President Bill Clinton, the 42nd President of the United States of America, today headlined two rallies in support of Governor Jon S. Corzine, Lieutenant Governor candidate Loretta Weinberg and Democrats running for office throughout New Jersey.

“President Clinton being here today shows the strength and momentum of this campaign, from the top to the bottom of the ticket,” said Joseph Cryan, chairman of the Democratic State Committee.  “His successes as president are a stark reminder of the differences between Democratic and Republican philosophies – the same differences that are on display in this campaign.”

“President Clinton guided our nation through a period of financial and social prosperity not seen since the days of Franklin Delano Roosevelt,” said Corzine.  “To have him here today supporting my candidacy and the candidacy of Democrats up and down the ticket reinforces the fact that we are working to protect what matters most to New Jersey families.”

“Jon Corzine has a proven record of doing what’s right for the people of New Jersey, no matter the political or public opposition,” President Clinton said. “By making paid family leave the law, expanding health care coverage to an addition 100,000 children, and creating a more fair and equitable school funding formula for students, he has been the rare kind of governor who has made positive, meaningful changes in the lives of people across the state.”

“Just as President Clinton once said he still believes in a place called Hope, Jon Corzine and I are fighting every day for working families in New Jersey because we believe that our state’s best days are ahead of us,” said Weinberg. “Christie, meanwhile, threatens to turn back the progress we have already made – opposing paid family leave and even wanting to give insurance companies free rein to drop coverage for critical procedures like mammograms and autism screenings.”

President Clinton’s visit was timed to capitalize on the growing momentum of the Corzine/Weinberg ticket and to boost excitement about the upcoming election.  The former president first took the stage at a rally with South Jersey Democratic supporters at the Collingswood Ballroom.  

Following the Collingswood event, the former president traveled to New Brunswick for a student rally at Rutgers University, where he encouraged the assembled students and Democratic supporters to make their voices heard by voting on Election Day.

President Clinton’s visit was part of a surge of high-profile surrogates stumping for Corzine, Weinberg and Democrats. On Monday Vice President Joseph Biden appeared at a Corzine rally at Middlesex County College.  Tomorrow President Barack Obama is expected to speak before thousands of enthusiastic Corzine supporters at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
