(PATERSON) – Assemblywomen Nellie Pou and Elease Evans today joined Victory ’09 co-chair Freeholder Tahesha Way, Passaic County Democratic Chairman John Currie, elected officials and candidates from across Passaic, as well as volunteers and Paterson residents at a rally to kick-off the grand opening of the new Passaic County headquarters of the Democratic State Committee’s Victory ’09 Campaign.
The Assemblywomen said that the rally was a sign that the support for Governor Corzine’s re-election continues to grow each day.
“Jon Corzine and New Jersey Democrats fight everyday to get our state’s economy back on track, to expand access to health care for our children and families and to get more tax relief for seniors, disabled residents and working families,” said Pou (D-Paterson). “Paterson residents are excited about the opening of this office because we are ready to get to work in our local community to support efforts across New Jersey to re-elect Jon Corzine and New Jersey Democrats.”
“It’s great to see so many Paterson residents here today to support Governor Jon Corzine, Loretta Weinberg and help every Democrat up and down the ballot secure Victory in 2009,” said Evans (D-Paterson). “Passaic County played an integral role in electing President Barack Obama last year and now we need to keep it going to support Governor Corzine and ensure that our President has a partner here in New Jersey. Governor Corzine is committed to doing what is best for the people of New Jersey and this means working with our President to make his bold agenda for change a reality.”
Freeholder Way added that the rally displayed the scope of support for Governor Corzine and Democrats throughout the campaign.
“Paterson is one of the most diverse cities in our state,” said Way. “People from all backgrounds and walks of life are ready to come together to work as one because they know how important this election is to the families in our communities and they appreciate the efforts of Jon Corzine and Democrats which are already working to ensure that we emerge from this economic crisis stronger than ever.”
“Jon Corzine is the right person to lead New Jersey because he fights for what matters most to Paterson residents and families across the State,” said Currie. “We cannot afford any more Bush Republican policies -- Christie would reject funding from President Barack Obama’s stimulus and drive up property tax bills for New Jersey homeowners by $2 billion. The hardworking families of Paterson cannot afford Christie’s partisan politics -- Christie is wrong when it matters most to the people of Paterson and across the state.”
The rally was held at the Paterson Victory ’09 headquarters, which is one of three Victory ’09 offices located in Passaic County. The office hosts a range of campaign activities to reach out to voters including volunteer phone banking and door-to-door canvassing. In addition, the offices also are home to the Democratic State Committee’s Yes We Can 2.0 Campaign which organizes a variety of dynamic events in communities across Passaic County to engage new voters.
Nearly 100 local volunteers and Passaic County residents attended the rally and later took part in outreach activities including calling voters and knocking on doors in Paterson.
