(CAMDEN) – Democratic State Committee Vice Chair Dana Redd today issued the following statement on Speaker Joseph J. Roberts’ decision not to run for re-election:
“It has been an honor and a privilege to have worked alongside Speaker Joseph Roberts in representing the residents of Camden and Gloucester counties.
“From his time as a councilman to leading the New Jersey General Assembly, Joe Roberts always served with great integrity, skill and foresight.
“It is not without sadness that I thank him for his inspiring and dignified leadership – he will be missed.
“However, it is important that we use this moment to celebrate his many achievements.
“Joe Roberts worked to bring about real change to improve the lives of the people of our district as well as the lives of every New Jerseyan across our great state.
“He fought for 34 years for the residents of South Jersey and spent 22 years in the New Jersey Legislature creating groundbreaking legislation on issues ranging from affordable housing to property tax relief to creating programs to serve special needs children and families.
“Speaker Roberts was a driving force in South Jersey’s economic development – he was instrumental in bringing good jobs to our area and supporting the growth of businesses in our communities.
“Speaker Roberts’ agenda for New Jersey has been unfailingly compassionate and rooted in the best and strongest Democratic values.
"I am honored to have served with him in Camden and in the New Jersey Legislature but I am even more honored to call him my friend.
“I wish him the best and continued success as he pursues his next endeavors."
