ENGLEWOOD - Assembly Speaker Joseph J. Roberts, Jr. (D - Camden) lauded Governor Jon S. Corzine’s selection of Senator Loretta Weinberg as the first Democratic Lieutenant Governor candidate. In response to the Governor’s announcement Speaker Roberts issued the following statement:
"I couldn’t be more thrilled by Gov. Corzine’s choice of Sen. Loretta Weinberg as his candidate for lieutenant governor. Senator Weinberg is a top-notch selection and I look forward to seeing her serve New Jersey in her new role.
“I’ve known Senator Weinberg for years and she is a dear friend who I know cares deeply about New Jersey and its residents.
“Her record is impeccable, whether it be combating autism, protecting renters, safeguarding new mothers and their babies or fighting for more open government. Her strong record on ethics and government integrity cannot be questioned and is just what this state needs.
“Her experience is to be admired – a grandmother who has run a successful business with her beloved husband, served in local office and devoted countless hours to community service.
“Sen. Weinberg is a smart, tough and accomplished leader who’s always focused on one thing – doing what’s right for the people of New Jersey. She is an impressive candidate. I applaud the governor for his decision.”
