TRENTON – Senator Shirley K. Turner, D-Mercer, issued the following statement today on the announcement of an agreement between Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey and Capital Health Systems over reimbursement rates for medical services:
“I am obviously pleased Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield and Capital Health Systems have been able to work through their differences and reach an agreement that will allow Horizon subscribers to continue using the Helene Fuld and Mercer campuses of Capital Health as in-network providers.
“I have been urging both sides to negotiate in good faith and to agree to mediation under the state Public Advocate. To their credit, both sides agreed to this and were able to come to an amicable solution that preserves these two important Mercer County facilities as in-network healthcare providers for thousands of Horizon subscribers. I applaud them, as well as the Public Advocate, for facilitating this solution.
“The parties to this arrangement can take pride in knowing they have achieved a settlement that is in the best interest of thousands of people who live in this area and need to be able to use the services of doctors and facilities at the Helene Fuld and Mercer campuses. In the end, whatever concessions either side had to make to reach this agreement pale in comparison to the health needs of the public.”
