SWEENEY SUPPORTS FOX RE-NOMINATION TO BPU
By Matthew ReillyTRENTON – Senate Majority Leader Stephen Sweeney (D-Gloucester, Cumberland and Salem) is calling on his colleagues in the Senate Judiciary Committee to support the re-nomination of Jeanne Fox as President of the state Board of Public Utilities.
“Ms. Fox shows the leadership that will be necessary to move New Jersey toward renewable energy and other important energy and utility issues facing our state,” Senator Sweeney said. “Her extensive experience as an outstanding public servant is an asset to the State of New Jersey.”
Senator Sweeney wrote to Sen. Paul Sarlo (D-Bergen), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, offering his recommendation on behalf of Ms. Fox. The committee is scheduled to consider Ms. Fox’s nomination when it meets at 10 a.m. Monday in Trenton. She was re-nominated to the post in February 2008 by Gov. Jon S. Corzine.
The Board of Public Utilities has jurisdiction over the rates and services of telephone, electric, gas, water and wastewater companies, as well as exercising certain responsibilities regarding cable television operators. It has 290 employees.
Ms. Fox has been president of the BPU since Jan. 15, 2002, and was U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Regional Administrator, with jurisdiction over New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, from 1994-2001.
