The Bergen Record

We have been enthusiastic supporters of Vandervalk in the past, and we remain so for this election. She has consistently worked on health issues, from sponsoring the safe haven law that allows parents to give their newborns to a hospital or the police without legal repercussions, to recently signed legislation allowing children with diabetes to take their medication in school, as long as parents, a doctor and the school nurse have agreed. She is currently working to build affordable housing for people who have become disabled after age 21. It is an important undertaking.

Schroeder owns a business that makes portable structures used for sheds, dormitories and airplane hangers. He sells to the military and to relief agencies. We believe that as a business owner Schroeder would bring a needed perspective to the Assembly. He would have firsthand knowledge of business taxes and regulation, and could work with other legislators to craft bills that would appeal both to the corporate community and to residential taxpayers.

We back Vandervalk and Schroeder because we believe they can effectively work well together as a team.

.

The Record endorses Republicans Charlotte Vandervalk and Robert Schroeder for the 39th District.

They Failed to Omit this part of the Editorial:

Another evasion of the truth from the Republicans!

"The Democratic opponents are worthy of consideration.

Michael McCarthy of Dumont is the legislative and political director for the International Alliance of Theatrical Stagehand Employees in New Jersey. He worked in his father's insurance business for years. He wants to push for more mandated therapies for children with autism and related disabilities, including speech and occupational therapies and one-on-one aides.

Running mate John Shahdanian II of Old Tappan is an employment lawyer at a Secaucus firm, and has been named a top lawyer in various New Jersey magazines. He would bring a can-do attitude to Trenton. Both candidates are in favor of consolidation. Shahdanian would consider county government taking over local police departments.

We encourage Shahdanian to continue in politics."
