Eighteen-year-old Matt Mowers has not yet started his second semester at Rutgers, but he’s about to begin a job as Executive Director of the Bergen County Republican Organization.
Mowers, who managed state Sen. Gerald Cardinale’s reelection campaign, will begin work on Wednesday, making him by far the youngest executive director in the state. He’ll do that while remaining a full-time student.
“I’ve worked it out. Same as last semester -- creative scheduling,” said Mowers, who lives in East Brunswick.
Mowers got to know BCRO Chairman Rob Ortiz while working on the Cardinale campaign. About a month after the election, Ortiz offered him the vacant post.
“We’re excited to continue working with Matt,” said Ortiz. “I said that I wanted him to be an integral part of building in Bergen, and he accepted my offer.”
Mowers said that, since the job is paid, he won’t get college credit for doing it.
