Good Riddance!

Good riddance to the over-the-top liberal hack.

Probably needs the money

He has young kids so he was staring down a college education which costs 120k for for four years at a second tier school like Rutgers.  PSEG pays their folks top dollar.  I know a couple of mid-mgrs who make 90k there.

Tom Moran

Mr. "Whine me a river" will not be missed. The SL is in talks with its unions for givebacks due to a deteriorating financial condition - SL 12/5/07

Maybe Moran is the first rat to desert the sinking ship.

a good one

Moran was one of the best political writers in the state, IMO. The recent article on Franks was insider politics at its best, for example. His work will be missed.

<insert gasbag joke here>

I look forward to hard-hitting brochures on the benefits of gas over oil and hope he'll expose all those people who don't weatherstrip.

I agree with those who question the motivation.  You leave a newspaper for a magazine or tv, not the gas co.

Strange.

Curious

I thought for sure that he would leave the SL to become press secretary for the Christie 2009 campaign.

I'm spending way too much time on this site!

I'm not familiar enough with Mr. Moran to make a judgment on the quality of his work.

I found his recent column here: http://www.nj.com/columns/ledger/moran/index.ssf?/base/columns-0/120227975882560.xml&coll=1

to be intruiging and instructive.

If the BCDO was not making all those phone bank calls in Bergen County. Who was? Several people I've spoken with said they received numerous telephone calls up to and including on election day. My mother in law received five (5) calls on election day alone. In the days leading up to the election, my brother in law, who has a Latino surname, received calls in spanish. SO, WHO MADE THE CALLS? Perhap's a professional $5 million phone banking operation did. Money well spent indeed.

If newpapers were still gainful employment perhaps we would find out who made all those calls. Investigative reporting is on life support in this country. We rely on the fourth estate to ensure we have a liberal democracy and not the best democracy money can buy (care of the Mainstream Media).

God speed to you Mr. Moran, and good luck to US all.

PSE&G has made a smart move..

With the rising utility bills, PSE&G needs a PR guy without a conscience.

So Who Becomes the Auditor on the Ledger's Op Ed?

It would be nice if the Ledger put a second local conservative on the Op Ed page for more balance.

Sad Day

Tom Moran is one of the most intelligent and balanced reporters that I have read over the last twenty years. This is a loss to all the SL readers. No doubt he left for financial reasons and for that we can not blame him. Given the state of the forth estate, we had best get used to losing our most articulate and insightful writers to the better compensated corporate world.

Best to you Mr Moran, and thank you for your service.
