Marks and Vastine Oppose Corzine Gas Tax Hike

Scotch Plains - Republican Assembly candidates, former Scotch Plains Mayor Martin Marks and William "Bo" Vastine, today blasted a gas tax hike proposal offered by Governor Jon Corzine and the Democrats as ill-timed and ill-conceived.

"When will Democrats like Jon Corzine, Jerry Green and Linda Stender learn that the solution to our economic problems cannot be found in higher taxes?" Marks asked. "New Jersey families, who have endured 115 tax increases in eight years, already pay the highest property taxes in the nation and simply cannot afford yet another tax hike."

According to news reports, Governor Corzine is proposing a gas tax hike to pay for more state borrowing for transportation projects.  Marks and Vastine noted that not only is New Jersey one of the most taxed states in the nation, but it already has $44 billion in debt.

"With the economy struggling and many people out of work, there could not possibly be a worse time to increase taxes," said Vastine. "Given the enormous tax burden placed on our state by the Corzine-Green-Stender team in recent years, New Jersey families are already facing an affordability crisis. This will exacerbate that problem."

Marks and Vastine said that New Jersey must adopt a pay-as-you go approach to transportation funding and said that this should be supported to the extent possible by existing revenues and cuts to wasteful and unnecessary spending in the state's bloated budget.

"Our opponents have a history of voting to support Governor Corzine's tax hikes and they will likely line up to support this one as well," Marks said. "We need to make tax cuts a priority in Trenton, and today's news demonstrates the current regime has no intention of doing so."

"This proposed gas tax hike is just one more example of why we need a change in leadership," Vastine concluded. "Marty and I are offering that change."

Say no to Christie and Corzine. Vote Daggett

Don't by that GOP non-sense that Daggett is a plant funded by Corzine.

Fact is Daggett has no funds at all.

Futhermore, Chris Daggett nailed Christie and Corzine for corruption in 3rd Debate

You really have to hand it to Chris Daggett. Not only did he stand toe to toe with Jon Corzine and Chris Christie he really nailed it to them in the 3rd NJ  Gubernatorial Debate. Once again, for the third time in a row, I give this as a notch for Daggett.

Chris Daggett handed it to both Christie and Corzine for corruption saying to fight corruption you need to lead by example.

Daggett then cited specific corrupt activities that Christie and Corzine had engaged in, including illegal campaign finance and pay to play, and neither Corzine or Christie could defend themselves.

Instead, Corzine acknowledges that activity is going on and agrees with Daggett that it needs to stop.
