In light of the latest corruption bust that incriminated three New Jersey mayors, two Assemblymen, and several other state officials, leading conservative and libertarian organizations around the state have come together to express that now, more than ever, residents of New Jersey must demand true political reform.
As a result of a government whose size has grown out of control, we have lost the ability to keep our officials in check and hold them accountable. In a joint statement, Conservatives with Attitude!, NJC4L, New Jersey Conservative GOP, Woodbridge Conservative GOP, and Republicans for Conservative Leadership declare that there is only one solution for the problem of government corruption, and this is to maintain a limited government based on the principles of individual responsibility, fiscal accountability, a system of values, and devotion to the Constitution and rule of law.
John DiMarco of Republicans for Conservative Leadership emphasized that “it is the people who do not adhere to these basic standards who lay the groundwork for the kind of corruption we have just witnessed.”
“This is not the first time our political leaders have been touched by corruption. Sadly, we doubt it will be the last. As Samuel Adams said, ‘If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin.’ We believe that time is now. We call on our fellow citizens to demand less from government and more from those that control the levers of government. The smaller the government, the less opportunity for corruption.”
Sharon Soon of Conservatives with Attitude! concurred. “Conservatives must stand in opposition to corruption and any violation of their values; we must show the people of New Jersey that there is a better alternative to the status quo, and that is to elect principled conservatives to office who we can trust to bring us out of this cycle of dishonesty and destruction. And then, we need to hold these officials to their word.”
As the details of the corruption probe continue to be revealed, conservative groups hope that this news will be the last straw for voters, who will have the chance this November to bring about a real change in the way government is run.
All participants of this press release strongly condemn the bribery that led to the arrests of 44 individuals, many of whom are elected officials hailing from Hudson County.
