YUDIN IS REBUILDING BERGEN COUNTY GOP, DESERVES STATE GOP SUPPORT
Assemblyman Richard Merkt, who is a candidate for Governor, today expressed confidence in Bergen County Republican Chairman Bob Yudin and his campaign to rebuild the Bergen County Republican Organization. Merkt urged state GOP leaders to support Yudin’s efforts to bring back the Republican Party in Bergen County.
“Chairman Yudin has shown himself to be a fair-minded, dedicated and energetic leader for the Bergen County Republican Organization,” noted Merkt. “He deserves the full support of Republicans everywhere in his efforts to rescue Bergen County from the current stranglehold the Democrats have on it.”
Merkt deplored a recent report by columnist Charles Stile, to the effect that all Bergen County GOP candidates would be denied state funding unless Chairman Yudin backs a particular candidate for Assembly in this spring’s Republican primary.
“This may be standard operating procedure in Democratic political circles, but it is certainly not the Republican way of choosing a legislative candidate,” remarked Merkt. “Our party has long prided itself on being open to competition among candidates as the way to strengthen our ranks and field the best nominee in the general election. Chairman Yudin should be free to make his own decision about whom he will support, without pressure or threat of reprisal.”
Merkt reminded Republicans of the importance of this fall’s elections:
“The larger goal is to liberate Bergen County – and, indeed, the entire state – from the devastating effects of years of Democratic misrule,” declared Merkt. “We can succeed only if we respect our Republican principles and offer a genuine alternative to Democrats, rather than behaving like them.”
