Assemblyman Reed Gusciora (D-Princeton) is organizing efforts to support Cell Phones for Soldiers, a non-profit organization founded to provide soldiers stationed abroad with prepaid phone calling cards so they can call home.
“Cell Phones for Soldiers is a worthwhile cause that allows any citizen with an old cell phone to support our Armed Forces that serve our country so courageously,” explained Gusciora.
Started in April 2004 by two Massachusetts teenagers, Cell Phones for Soldiers collects old and used cell phones to sell to companies that recycle them. They use those profits to buy pre-paid calling cards and send them to soldiers stationed abroad.
“The ambition of these two young adults and their dedication to such a charitable cause is set an excellent example that we all can learn from,” explained Gusciora. “I’m very excited to be supporting such a fantastic organization and its cause.”
Any resident who has an unneeded cell phone is encouraged to bring their device to the Office of Assemblyman Gusciora and Assemblywoman Watson Coleman. The office is located at 226 W. State Street in Trenton and the phone can be dropped into the box located in the reception area.
“Each donated phone gives a solider one hour of talking time to their family and friends back home,” concluded Gusciora. “As more military personnel are sent overseas, the need becomes that much greater. I hope every resident is willing to help these brave men and women stay in touch with their families.”
