Reductions in education and hospital aid will hurt working poor, says Spencer

Gov. Chris Christie's budget proposals would severely impact Newark and the working poor of her district, said Assemblywoman L. Grace Spencer (D-Newark).

Suspension of the property tax rebate checks will deal a blow to seniors.

Cuts to education will affect children dependant on state school aid.

"The City of Newark will sufffer on so many different fronts," lamented Spencer. "You're going to cut a district barely surviving on what it gets now."

At the city level, "Mayor Booker is going to have to make some hard choices," the assemblywoman said. "He has to be wise as he goes through the budget and assesses those making salaries in excess of $100,000. Are they saving the city money and doing job of three people? Critical question. He's got to make that decision."

Spencer said Christie's speech was unnecessarily hostile toward the teacher's union and unnecessarily aggressive.

"I'm an optimistic person by nature," the assemblywoman said. "At the end of the day, we will have a budget that will reflect what's necessary for the citizens and the State of New Jersey, but I don't feel the items presented by the governor reflect sound ideas that will benefit the entire state. The cuts that will harm the most vulnerable people in this state are simply not a good idea."

Here we go!

New Jerseyans will get what they asked for with this guy. Christie is unnecessarily nasty, and seems to be a cross between George Bush and Giuliani. To think that we have to put up with this bore for 4 years is unfathonable. Guy has the integrity of a snake, and is a bully. Actually, should maybe be in jail instead of in the Governor's office.

Hurt the Poor

Here we go, alright. Everyone with an axe to grind will be out telling us how the poor or the children or somebody else will be hurt. But not one of them is willing to write a $10.7 billion check to balance the budget.

We the People

This response by the Assemblywomen is the problem in NJ. These politicians think that the money they spend on these programs comes from a very, very deep well that is in Trenton, some place. Insted of addressing the runaway spending that that they have created, they whine and cry about the children and seniors that will be harmed.

WHAT ABOUT US TAXPAYERS. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

"Suspension of the property tax rebate checks will deal a blow to seniors."

I believe that most seniors should NOT have to continue to pay property taxes in NJ. Those that have stayed in NJ, have already paid enough. Besides if the State has money for rebates, then why tax us in the first place.

THE TIME FOR CHANGE IS UPON US. STOP WHINING!

Start paying your own bills.

Start paying your own bills. Lose the attitude of entitlement. Why should someone work harder and longer to pay your bills?
