WEST NEW YORK - Dr. Felix Roque anticipates receiving word from the West New York Clerk's Office sometime before 11:30 a.m. about the status of his petitions to recall Mayor Silverio "Sal" Vega.
If Clerk Carmela Riccie approves at least 5,200 of Roque's 6,000 petitions, Vega will be forced to schedule a recall election.
"We're very anxious," Roque told PolitickerNJ.com. "We know the odds are against us. We're up against the machine. A challenger never won a recall election, and that includes Albio Sires."

Are you kidding me, Doc?
There is no chance in the world that 800 signatures aren't getting knocked off.
If you really wanted a fair shot, you should have taken the Mister Smith Goes to Hudson County act somewhere else.
If it's not approved...
If the petitions dont qualify, Roque will shout "machine" and corruption and use it against Vega who's up for reelection in 2011.
Regardless Roque wins.

Regardless Roque wins."
That's been my contention from the beginning.
Ultimately, that's what I think the primary objective is. Otherwise, Roque would've collected more signatures than he did and filed his petitions with the County Clerk, Barbara Netchert, instead of the West New York Town Clerk.
This totally wreaks of a setup. Only difference being that in my opinion, Vega can overcome it either way.

Vega is no prize but this Roque guy isn't any better ...
By no means is this a defense of Vega ...("Vega who by-the-way, seems to be aging in every picture faster than a ripened banana")...but Roque has come-off like a big-mouth clown. His big ego gets in the way of his credibility and folks do not take him seriously. Everyone knows he's running on behalf of Stack's and Albio's dirty little work. Roque's macho comments make him look foolish and he should realize that he will be controlled in his every political move ("just like in the case of Assemblywoman Caridad Rodriquez, Tilo Rivas, etc.") ... his Cuba repression comments should come in handy then ... Roque, your a doctor, why in the world would you want to mess that up???
petitions
In New York (where I have practiced some election law), where fighting over petition signatures is an art, we would expect a petition with barely the required number of signatures to be dead on arrival. Roque's petitions being disqualified should not be a surprise given his small "buffer." He now has to try to reinstate something like 1,500 signatures out of 2,500 that were disqualified. That's like running up the side of the Palisades.
