The Assembly Republican caucus this morning reelected Assembly Mniority Leader Alex DeCroce (R-Parsippany) to a fourth consecutive term.
Support was unanimous.
After threatening, Assembly Conference Leader Pete Biondi (R-Hillsborough) ended up not challenging DeCroce, who is rumored to be a short list candidate for the cabinet of Gov.-elect Chris Christie.
Assemblyman Jon Bramnick (R-Westfield) this morning received his caucus's backing to be conference leader and Assemblyman Dave Rible (R-Wall) moved up to become whip.
"I appreciate the overwhelming support by the members in reelecting me to continue as leader of the caucus," said DeCroce. "I look forward to working with them and our governor-elect, Chris Christie, in returning New Jersey as a great place to live and work. Along with Assemblymen Bramnick and Rible and the rest of our leadership team I am confident we can achieve our goal of once again making our state more affordable for middle class families. There are many common sense reforms that should be considered by the Legislature that will improve state government and I will work hard to make sure they are enacted.”
If DeCroce goes to the Christie cabinet, Bramnick would have the assembly minority leader's support for leadership, springing a possible fight between Bramnick and Biondi to succeed him.

Retirement planning?
So... DeCroce has been in the Assembly for 20 years. If he now takes a Cabinet job, and stays for three years... he retires with a State pension at 23/55 of a Cabinet officer's salary (currently $141,000), or $63,145/year. Not bad for three years' full-time service.
???
Christie wins by 5% and the GOP only picks up one seat in the Assembly. How does the caucus justify re-electing DeCroce as leader?
Alex at the NJDOT
Alex is savvy about the NJDOT from his years on the Transportation Committee. He should:
1. stop NJDOT from buying any more small plane airports (it already owns 2) and shut down the entire Aviation Unit.
2.shut down Traffic Operations and transfer its personnel back to highway maintenance and project engineering
3. shut down its Maritime Bureau.
Congratulations to DeCroce and Bramnick
The Assembly caucus voted, and chose DeCroce and Bramnick to lead. These are two great guys and deserve our support. We cannot continually have these public civil wars within the party and expect folks to take us seriously. With Chris Christie in the governor's office and a chance to get real bi-partisan support, which is the only way we can legislatively address the problems facing us in NJ, let's put inter-party squabbling aside, and just work to get the job done. Good luck Alex and Jon!

If in fact DeCroce moves to the cabinet, both minority leaders would be from the same district.
Time for New Blood
Last 2 assembly races were losers.
Give Bramnick
the cabinet job and watch the fun in the 21st. Perfect fun for the Holidays!

The current GOP leadership
The current GOP leadership has worked great for us. How many seats do you have?
With Love,
The Democrats
Back to the core mission
NJDOT needs to refocus on its core mission -- rebuilding and upkeep of highways. If the Governor-Elect wants to show he is serious about reducing the size of gov't, NJDOT is a prime place to start -- Aviation, Maritime, Traffic Operations units should be shut down and its employees put back to patching potholes and designing repair projects. Come on, Alex, you know what needs to be done.
Give me a break.
Alex has picked up seats every cycle he's been minority leader. He wasn't responsible for this disaster of a map but he's done pretty damn well given the map's limitations and fundraising that has been severely hampered by new campaign finance rules. Rather than throwing stones, he should be patted on the back for what he's done in the face of adversity.
Seats? Excuses?
Making excuses is what you call success? We all know what is wrong, but the idea is to fix it. I worked hard for some candidates and they lost because in some areas there ARE NO GOP COMMITTEES! Whose fault is that? We lost 2 seats in 2007 so your math is wrong, and we picked up one seat Tuesday while the New Governor wins by 100K. I would bet that's never happened before. I am sorry but that’s not a successful assembly election, and with all due respect let’s gives a new person a shot. BTW what is you definition of success? Picking up one seat this year and losing two seats 2 years ago? Enjoy the Governor victory, but please don't say our assembly leader did a good job, politics is a result business and excuses for losing are a dime a dozen. Holding to the seats we have is about all he did, and that's not good enough.
Check your facts
PC517, Republicans went from 30 seats to 32 seats in the 2007 election and gained one Tuesday which is a 10% increase in the size of the caucus over the last two elections. Don't forget, a large number of the votes that Christie earned were from areas that are Republican districts (hence the large pluralities in Ocean and Monmouth). With the way Democrats forbid groups to donate money to Republicans (i.e. people bein told in 2007 to not donate to Sen. Beck's campaign) by threatening to pass bills that they opposed or not moving bills that they supported, Alex has done a good job raising money along with Bramnick and Rible and helping out other candidates. Alex has worked harder than any other leader that is currently is in office. When it comes down to what candidates do on their own accord, you can't blame Alex. He does everything for them and more. Nothing less.
PC 517
As was mentioned, you need to check your facts. We won seats in 2007. Declan O'Scanlon took out that weiny Mike Panter and District 2 came home. I think we also won a seat in 2005 when Jen Beck beat Dr. Bob Morgan. (2005 might have been a break even year, can't remember).
Your analysis also shows a fundamental lack of understanding on two points. First, the fact that Christie won by 100000 votes doesn't mean we should pick up lots of seats. Huge pluralities in Ocean and Monmouth for Christie don't translate into seats in Essex. That being said, you've made the same argument that the current map disproves - the party with the most votes will control the legislature. This simply isn't the case. However, you're in good company if you consider that Democrat shill Larry Bartels good company. As the 11th member of the redistricting commission Bartels claimed when drawing the current unconstitutional map that the party receiving the most votes statewide, even with built in incumbency protection, would eventually control the legislature by the end of the decade. Like most of what came out of Bartels mouth, that has proven to have been as valid a theory as global warming. I mean climate change. I mean global cooling. Oh nevermind, you get the idea.
Instead of complaining about Alex, how about thanking him for a job well done in the face of a map that from the outset made it nearly impossible for him to pick up anything. Moreover, that he repeatedly picked up seats despite a fundraising deficit (not his fault) is remarkable. So just say thank you and be on your way.
The results in district one
Indicate that it is not the map, that having a "Republican" seat or more "Republican" seats is no assurance of victory.
If you lose so badly in one, you can lose anywhere.
Thank you?
You must be delusional. When you make excuses for losing in politics thats a loser.
In case you forgot, politics is performace business and picking up one seat in the assembly is a poor performance.
BTW, what did you do to help?
I stood with my assembly candidates in my district at least 7 times, I didn't see DeCroce here once.
DeCroce did appear once
in the 22nd in early Oct but the NJGOP botched the word on it.
