PATERSON - Appearing at the Brownstone at a beefsteak dinner hosted by state Sen. John Girgenti (D-Hawthorne), Gov. Jon Corzine this evening swatted aside news of the New Jersey Environmental Federation's endorsement of GOP challenger Chris Christie.
"President Barack Obama selected my DEP (Department of Environmental Protection) commissioner to head the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and Al Gore, one of the foremost environmentalists in America, came here to endorse me and knows how we have promoted clean energy alternatives," Corzine told PolitickerNJ.com. "On an objective basis, environmentalists know we have no intention of despoiling the environment."
A Fairleigh Dickinson University poll Tuesday showed Corzine leading Christie for the first time since February, 44-43%.
"I'll say the same thing I have always said, which is that the only poll that matters is the one on Nov. 3rd," said the governor.
Asked about the legislative leadership battle, which pits Senate President Richard Codey (D-Roseland) against the Essex County backers of his South Jersey rival, state Senate Majority Leader Steve Sweeney (D-West Deptford), and its spillover potential on the governor's race, Corzine said he thinks it's inside baseball.
"Most people are increasingly focused on Nov. 3rd," said the governor.

Corzine stands by his environmental record? If I were him I would run screaming from it. Yes, Socialist in Chief Obama picked Lisa Jackson to head the EPA. Then she turned around and basically said the NJDEP had no clue what they were doing in one of the harshest audits ever. All that after the NJDEP allowed a thermometer factory to be turned into a daycare center and are currently allowing a Port to be built on 2 Super Fund sites with no remediation.
But, look ... it's Al Gore and he endorsed me. Al Gore is a loser who has positioned himself to make MILLIONS off the Global Warming crisis he started (I guess when he got done inventing the internet he had some free time). When NJ's refineries are all closed because of Cap & Trade we will all have to beg Al for a job. Environmentalist and Profiteer are spelled different for a reason, they are two different things and one of them, Al Gore is not.
Hey Corzine is beating Christie in a poll finally, maybe they only polled the unemployed & brainwashed Union workers ... WAKE UP NJ THIS GUY HAS GOT TO GO. If he wins on Nov 3rd, call U-Haul and get packed, NJ won't survive the next 4 years.
