Codey absorbs news of Sweeney's backers, won't give up

WEST ORANGE - Senate President Richard Codey (D-Roseland) smiled as he considered the news of Senate Majority Leader Steve Sweeney's (D-West Deptford) upper-hand in their play for backing in a caucus leadership fight.

Sweeney's commitment of support from 14 members in a 23-member caucus appears to give him enough to defeat Codey, who's served as senate president for six years.

"I don't have a comment," said Codey to reporters as he walked out of his office and made for the parking lot.

He turned and his smile widened as he quoted Sweeney's comment about their leadership battle.

"One hand behind his back?" Codey said. "One hand behind his back?"

His office simultaneously released an official statement.

“As I have said before, my focus and energies are on re-electing Jon Corzine as Governor and helping Assembly candidates throughout the state in their campaigns,” said the senate president.  “Everyone knows leadership battles are a fluid and ever-changing process – and what is today, is not tomorrow.  We have five weeks until election day and I intend to continue to do all I can for Governor Corzine and Assembly Democrats across the state."

So Who's The Liar? Codey or Sweney?

It's a shame that Steve Sweeney has insisted on running his divisive and distractive campaign to enhance the power of the Norcross machine throughout the state.

Doing this in the midst of a tight and nationally critical gubernatorial campaign is petty Bush league bullshit.

You really do have to wonder if George Norcross is trying to sabotage Jon Corzine's chances of winning?   There's no way Sweeney would dare pull this crap on his own.  No doubt he is operating with Norcross's "blessing" or on his orders.

So, what do I mean by the "Who's lying" question.   You have to read Max Pizarro's story on politicker (Sweeney calls Codey letter 'crazy,' and Codey decries 'mischaracterizations'   of 9/22/09 1:27 PM) to understand that question....and my own comment in that thread.

Codey claims that Sweeney signed a pledge specifically promising to NOT run against him in 2009.

Sweeney confesses that he signed something along those lines, but he seems to also be claiming that his "promise" only applied to the date upon which the agreement was signed!  LOL

Now, if Codey is telling the truth about the existence of such an explicit and detailed agreement; then should make the agreement fully available to the press and to the people.   My money says Codey is telling the truth.....but if he's not willing to PROVE it, then it won't carry much weight.

Obviously such a document can't be legally binding; but it IS morally binding....and the bullshit line that Sweeney is using to get himself off the hook is downright ridiculous.

Frankly, IF Codey IS telling the truth (which I believe he is) then Sweeney is a pretty awful character.....and deserves to lose his seat all together, let alone be promoted.

And if Codey IS telling the truth why the **** would ANY Democrat want to vote against him?   Are honest decent Democrats out of fashion in Trenton?

One wonders, if this is this the result of the "machine power vacuum" created by Ferriero's departure?   Boss Joe might have counterbalanced Boss George in the old days, eh?

Meanwhile, at this rate, y'all can look forward to a state run by the Norcross machine and Chris Christie....very imperfect together.

Ideally, Jon Corzine would have stepped in at the beginning and put an end to this internecine nonsense.  Better late than never, eh?

Or,  maybe we have to turn into California before people wake up?

In the words of Roy Orbison

"It's over, it's over, it's over."

"It's OHHHH-VER!"

Norcross Hater

N.L. above is a notorious Norcross hater who believes that anyone who has ever associated with Norcross is evil.

What a shame.

Sweeney will be a very good Senate president who will protect the working men and women of this state.

Let's hope that some of the "haters" give him a chance.

Get the Feds to take Norcross Down or else suffer the wrath

Norcross's ASS should have gone down when Fumo and Bryant did. That's what happens when you keep problematic people like this around. Now look what he's done.

It's not to late to get the Feds.

ATTN: Christopher Christie/Norcross is planning on helping Corzine knock you out and here’s how.

Norcross Plan
Get control of all South Jersey Legislative seats. Get Codey Out, Bring in Sweeney as Senate president for the next four years before running him as Governor. Make a deal with Corzine that if we get Union and African American Support by cutting deals with Black Legislators like Oliver by making her speaker of the house we can then gain those votes and get rid of Christie. Once Corzine is elected, we then control it all. After the four years Corzine is safely in Washington or maybe he can just go a year, then resign to work with Clinton after she overthrows Obama and Sweeney takes over New Jersey as Governor. Greenwald will get a shot of taking Senate seat. Moriarty will take Maddens seat. Redd will move up to God knows what. The bottom line is EVERYTHING will stay the same, but the kings people will all get heavy rewards and move in new places. The state will still get screwed and the democratic party will continue playing the smile in your face game while screwing the people like they have been for decades. The fools will vote for us because we have money and we can bully, slander and destroy anybody who gets in GEORGE NORCROSS’S WAY.

Norcross brother and the rest of the good old boys maintain control of New Jersey and King Norcross stays in control. Never getting arrested or any feds do anything to him because he is so untouchable.

Fight on Dick!

If you don't succeed, Norcross will gut you like a fattened pig. Fight like your life depends on it... because it does. Start by making an example out of Sarlo... the Encap King... and Van Drew... the smarmey guy who used you for pork awards. If they are gone, it's two less votes Sweeney. Fight... fight... fight... the ITCHY AND SCRATCHY SHOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

I also like how Watson Coleman...

is thanked by her colleagues by being thrown under the bus like a piece of garbage. She is co-chair of the party and majority leader and whatnot and is a loyal soldier and this is the thanks she gets. She should get even!!!

Norcross haters have no facts

Like Codey, you people are seeing shadows everywhere.

Maybe I missed something but I don't remember seeing Norcross taken away in handcuffs.

Take your venom somewhere else.

Norcross is worse than the Anti-Christ

Norcross will be taken away in handcuffs soon one day and everybody in the State of New Jersey and around the world will rejoice.

Corruption County - Norcross

NORCROSS IS DANGEROUS. I hope Rice and those Senators who have a real brain educate the wannabees or they will end up like Codey and a whole list of people this Evil person has destroyed. Talk to the people who know him best in South Jersey.

He turned Camden County into Corruption County
