Republican gubernatorial candidate Chris Christie issued a release in response to a PolitickerNJ.com story by Matt Friedman about Gov. Jon Corzine's investments.
"Jon Corzine's hedge fund has a direct $26 million investment into an industry regulated by his own appointees," said Christie. "There is a blatant conflict of interest that is clearly wrong and must be corrected. Governor Corzine's hedge fund should not be able to directly profit from an industry he regulates.
"Each day, we learn of a new conflict of interest arising from the connection between the governor's personal finances and the state's finances," added the candidate. "If it's not inappropriate financial relationships with casino license holders or the state investing half-a-billion into TPG hedge funds, it's having a personal stake in companies regulated by his own political appointees. Jon Corzine has no choice but to reveal the entire amount of his financial investment with TPG, its decision-makers and TPG Axon if we're going to know exactly where and how the governor's vast personal fortune crosses the line."

Corzine is a LIAR--
Jon Corzine is a LIAR !!! Plain and simple NJ--the man is a LIAR. He has a long list of BROKEN PROMISES from 2005, and now he's back to his old campaign tricks. BURY an opponent, ANY opponent, in an avalanche of negative, distorting ads. This guy is Mr Nice Guy/Mr Softie to your face and then proceeds to use his millions to lie about you and bury you.
He shows no signs personally or professionally of having any real moral code. What a disgrace...it's sad to see someone willing to say anything, do anything and spend any amount of money to try and hold onto power. PATHETIC

Lines were crossed, blurred, obliterated by Corzine: Cold Plays
It matters that lines were blatantly and flagrantly crossed.

See ColdPlay performance plus
lyrics say it all.
You have to wonder how long he's been engaging in this kind of blatant crossing the line way of doing the peoples business; and at the very same time he appointed anointed regulators of public utilities that he and his cronies are invested in and profit off of enormously!
It makes you wonder who Jon Corzine directly and indirectly recruited into the secretive HEDGE FUND inner circle. Made to order for wall street masters of the universe.
Did Jon Corzine court and spark a cadre of elected assembly, senate, U.S. congress,UNION officials and state employees to join TPG HEDGE FUND: A formerly below the radar insiders $ club! But not anymore, since "Corzine Gate" was open and seen for what it is.
We have a right to know all the details.
Corzine Gate
feels like fate...The governor should have "buckled his seat belt" and tightened the belt on and off the Garden State Expressway err Parkway.
No one is going to really care.
This is as sexy as talking about farm subsidies and tipping fees at dumps.
Christie doesn't let the
Christie doesn't let the facts or the law get in the way of his broad allegations regarding Corzine's investments. His statements indicate that he neither knows nor cares how the investments are structured and what the laws prohibit. I don't want this kind of leadership. It's irresponsible.
People didn't care about Bernie Madoff either
Corzine is the same Goldman Sachs CEO that robbed all of US of $100's of billions, that received sweetheart deals from Geithner and the Treasury.
And people don't care while they're losing their own jobs?

Try learning the facts - the law states that the governor is not allowed to be involved in investments tied to his job. it is clear he is. talk about irresponsible.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
This is too funny.

"Chris Christie bought and sold stock in a travel and real estate company while it was under investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office he led at the time, according to public records.
"Christie, now the Republican candidate for governor, purchased shares of Cendant Corp. in 2004 and sold them in 2005, according to financial disclosure reports he filed with the Justice Department. In 2002, his office had renewed an investigation into Cendant, leading to fraud convictions of two of its former top executives in 2005 and 2007."

Bingo. That's what Corzine did. Where's the AG on this one? Oh, sucking on Corzine.
@Corslime - no, it's not
He was invested in a hedge fund that invested in companies that invested in casinos.
What is the investment, and
What is the investment, and what is the law that you're referring to? I will bet you don't know the details of the hedge fund or the language of the law. Thankfully, our laws aren't as vague as the conclusory statements made by these commenters.
Citizen17:
The law being referred to is the Casino Control Act, which can be found here: http://www.state.nj.us/casinos/actreg/act/
It's quite a lengthy law, so I probably missed it, but in a cursory search of it I was unable to find a provision pertaining to Corzine's alleged violation of said act.
That's not to say that what Corzine did wasn't wrong...I don't know enough of the facts to judge him on that. But I'd like to see which part of the statute Christie believes Corzine has violated.
Christie passing the buck
"Chris Christie bought and sold stock in a travel and real estate company while it was under investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office he led at the time, according to public records."
He says his "investment advisor" bought and sold the stock. I guess this will be Christie's tactic when he gets caught doing something wrong as Governor; blame his subordinates.
The Morris County doughboy is no Harry Truman.

FanovFlorio
I know that you Dems aren't used to facts ruining a good story....it will be interesting to see the next Dem that can't self finance. You people are used to Lautenberg & Corzine being able to "out shout" their opponents by flooding the state with their millions....sad commentary.

Hmmm
Hmmm seems this would fit. http://www.state.nj.us/ethics/statues/conflicts/
As for FanovFlorio - love the fact that you continue to spread the false allegations. Christie's office did not prosecute or investigate Cendant. His predecessor began the investigation of two FORMER employees which overlapped Christie's term as US Attorney. The investigation did not involve Cendant as a company. There is no "gotcgya" here although you and Corzine will lie and twist the truth to make that appearance.
