Corzine/Obama rally moved to Holmdel

In an email-web video blast to supporters last night, Corzine '09 Campaign Manager Maggie Moran said the campaign's original intention to encamp at Rutgers New Brunswick for a rally with President Barack Obama won't work.

Too many people want to attend next Thursday's event and the capacity on the Voorhees Mall is not there, Moran said. So the new venue will be the PNC Arts Center in Holmdel.

"In recent days, more than 52,000 of you have signed up through our web site to attend the event with President Obama and Gov. Corzine," Moran said in the web video.

The relocation places the president, governor and their minions squarely in the auspices of the very Republican 13th District for a few hours.

Moran apologized for having to turn people away, but promised other events opportunities for those who fail to make the cutoff to see Obama and Corzine onstage next week, and applauded the level of interest.

"The outpouring of interest is absolutely outstanding," said the campaign manager of a dynamic duo happening with Obama, which the campaign hopes will translate into doubled-up enthusiasm for an incumbent governor whose numbers have mostly sagged.

I'm sure...

I'm sure that they are coming to see Gov Corzine....YEA !!! He and VP Biden didn't draw more than 500 people to their election night rally at Codey Arena. Proud of a 38% poll number, this may be the last visit from the "chosen one". All of Corzines shrinking bank account won't be able to save him this time---no matter how many lying commercials he runs.

One more thing

While the President is here why doesn't someone ask him about the debt he is burdening us, our children, grandchildren, etc with. He and Corzine have a couple things in common--they push off all tough decisions and lie and distort about their record. Check out this website:

Change to control demonstrators?

Perhaps the real reason the Corzine campaign is moving the location is an attempt to control demonstrators.  The Rutgers campus is more open than the PNC Arts Center - and as a State University the Corzine people would have a hard time keeping other people off outside public property.  The Arts Center, although owned by the government - I think, the New Jersey Highway Authority - but there is some leasing arrangement with a private entity to run concerts, etc.  I don't know if that affects what the Corzine campaign is doing, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were going to say that this government owned land is "private property" with no demonstrators allowed on site.

Parkway Traffic

What time is this event scheduled? Because the traffic jam created on a Friday in the summer on the Parkway will surely make a lot of friends for the Governor. I'm reminded of the time that all traffic around Newark Airport was stopped for hours while President Clinton got a trim - and the subsequent uproar.

its

Thursday

That a lot

52,000 people is a whole lot for one of these things.

GoredNJ Right On

Obama is doing this as a test. If theres no bounce, The President wont be back any time soon. His own ratings are soft and he doesn't want to risk it.

Traffic

Will be a problem This is for strictly the base and if Corzine has base problems at this point he has BIG problems. Watch out for a "switch a roo" in Sept!!!

Great!

This gives us more room to protest. Where is my Bailout??? I say we line the GSP and hold signs regarding the toll increases also. It would be a great day to hold a tea party!

Obama

there will be no 16 year old brazilian booty
to look at there

Moran the moron

Short of Barack Obama running for LG, his presence changes nothing and the fact remains Jon Corzine is just another failed Democratic governor in the long line of failures beginning with Byrne, Florio and McGreevey. Moran and the rest of the professional hacks will have one last bite at the Corzine financial apple and then they'll have to find real jobs in the real world. Vote Column "A" - All the way!

This seems strange...

I think he is trying to rally the party base around him, which is odd because the "base" is already supporting Corzine (that's why they're called "the base"). Not to mention the fact that if you're looking to appeal to the base, why on earth would you hold this event in a heavily Republican district????
Corzine needs to drum up support from minorities and college students. I don't think this will dramatically help Corzine, namely because chances are that most of the people who will be attending this are from the party base and as such, would have supported Corzine anyway.

Corzine needs to earn the support from moderate Democrats and he DESPERATELY needs to win over Independents. The average poll has Christie beating Corzine amongst Independents by around 30%-40%. That's astounding for a Republican in New Jersey, running on a statewide level.

Sorry I didn't get to this thread earlier...it's ripe.

I'm a little late to the lovefest on this thread but just in case anybody out there is listening --

There's a bit of a reality-disconnect in the above anti-Corzine/Obama posts. And while there are numerous examples of this, I'd like to highlight this one:

"I think he is trying to rally the party base around him, which is odd because the "base" is already supporting Corzine (that's why they're called "the base"). Not to mention the fact that if you're looking to appeal to the base, why on earth would you hold this event in a heavily Republican district????"

Thing is, sure these rally-attending voters support Corzine; but Obama can actually affect who shows up at the polls. This is GOTV 101. PNC Bank Arts Center is easily accessible to literally millions of potential voters via the Parkway. And even if it weren't, a Democrat with broad appeal would be correct to hold a rally there to pick off the opposition's base, an increasingly easy task in today's climate.

Christie could do the same thing -- though it would be quite a risk -- by asking Sarah Palin to campaign with him in the Prudential Center. She could get more of the extreme wing of the party out to the polls for him, but risk alienating moderates and Independents, alike.

The problem the NJ GOP has with Obama, he is wildly popular with the base while still maintaining substantial popularity with moderates. He even has the support of many Republicans who have been sickened by Bush/Cheney and remain unimpressed with the current GOP leadership under Steele/Boehner/McConnell.

It'll be an interesting election, that's for sure. And if the Christie campaign has anything in common with the anti-Corzine folks posting on this thread, they are in deep, deep trouble.

What comes after a $Trillion$ Obama?  I heard the teleprompter made the call to switch to PNC.

Presidents visit/Fort Monmouth

Let's hope the Governor and our other elected representatives in Washington use the opportunity afforded by the Presidents visit to ask that he have his administration review the decision to close Fort Monmouth which was based on what are now known to be false numbers provided to the BRAC Commission by the Army/DOD. Original cost of the move was given at 800 million. Its now at 1.8 billion dollars and rising so there is no savings. There would however be economic devastation to surrounding communities and also a drop off in the mission of the Fort which is to support our fighting men and women.
