Union County GOP Chairman Phil Morin said Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean (R-Westfield) would do a good job as lieutenant governor, and would be an asset to a ticket headed by Chris Christie, should Christie land the Republican gubernatorial nomination tomorrow.
"If Tom wanted to serve in that role, Union County would be behind him," said Morin. "Certainly he has the temprament and experience to handle the job. He has done a great job in a short period of time keeping 17 GOP senators on the same page and working together."
Morin also noted that as the GOP's 2006 nominee for the U.S. Senate, Kean knows the terrain of a large-bore campaign.
"As a former statewide candidate he has a great sense of the issues," said Morin, who noted that Kean's running mate, Assembly Whip Jon Bramnick (R-Westfield), would also be a dynamic choice for Christie.
Asked last week if he's interested in the lieutenant governor's job, Kean said, "We're focused on the budget."
