Harcar wants to compete for 23rd District Assembly seat as a Democrat
By Max Pizarro, PolitickerNJ.com ReporterFormer Raritan Township Committeewoman – and former Republican -Chris Harcar wants to pursue an Assembly seat as a Democrat in the 23rd District, and the obvious question is whether her run has a grudge match factor with a party now headlined by nemesis state Sen. Marcia Karrow (R-Raritan).
The women tangled in June 2007, leaving Harcar to allege that Karrow busted her arm in a criminal complaint a judge later dismissed.
Harcar broke with the party last year.
“I’m not running for the senate,” said the former president of the local Republican Club and nine-year veteran of local elected office, denying that her run has anything to do with Karrow.
“I find the Democrats to be a warmer bunch of people,” she said.
Harcar wants to examine implementation of a flat tax, reform of the Council on Affordable Housing (COAH), and improvement of New Jersey’s business climate through stepped up investment in green collar jobs.
Hunterdon Democrats have scheduled their convention for March 28th, and Harcar said she intends to be there trying to secure her party’s nomination to run against a Republican ticket likely to consist of Karrow allies, Assemblyman John DiMaio (R-Hackettstown) and Hunterdon County Freeholder Erik Peterson.
Ed Smith of Warren County, Assemblyman Michael Doherty's (R-Washington Twp.) chief of staff, is also running for the support of the Republican Party in the June primary.
