In taverns, Elks Lodges and country clubs, politicos have paired the name of nearly every Republican elected official in the state with that of former U.S. Attorney Chris Christie as a potential running mate.

But in the event he wins the Republican Party nomination this year, the following are the names of some Republican politicians who have been mentioned most often as a complement to Christie.

Take a look at the short list and the odds of the possible picks.

Short Description:

Possible candidates for Lt. Governor if Chris Christie is the GOP nominee.

Lt Governor

Don't you have to win the primary before making such decisions?

What if Christie only gets 52-53% of the primary vote? Would he ignore the second place finisher as a running-mate?

Why is the assumption Christie cannot lose the primary?

Very dangerous assumption for a guy who has never ran in a serious contest in his life.

Vote Column "A" - All the way!

Sosa or Fenton NO WAY!

Allen or Beck YES!

Sosa and Fenton are both Paulsen puppets, Christie will get no where near them. The fact that this site would even mention these two has-beens is a joke!

editorial comment

Everytime you write about Jen Beck, following her name you should include the phrase "who drubbed Ellen Karcher in 2007."  It has a great ring to it and some scabs are worth picking.

Paging Central Casting ...

No one wins the Governor's race without winning Bergen County.

Kathe Donovan is the only Republican to win Bergen County in the last 5 years and she has won county-wide two separate times during the Joe Ferriero/BCDO era of dominance.

She has superior experience and credentials, is very popular and has excellent name recognition in a populous county.  She will deliver votes in Bergen and will help deliver much needed votes from the center on a statewide basis.

Would be a very smart choice.

Jennifer Beck,

"hot tranny train wreck" rings more true.

Kathe Donovan is a great candidate!!!!

To win statewide, you must win Bergen! She not only assures Christie a win in Bergen, she'll be a strong campaigner throughout the state and bring true independents and democrats into the GOP column. And if Kathe can overcome Obama, Lautenberg and Rothman and run high among countywide candidates in Bergen think what she can produce for Christie!

Christie-Donovan for NJ!

State Senator Jennifer Beck

Bright, savvy and charismatic, Senator Beck has a long political career ahead of her. She takes her job seriously, listens well, and offers a perfect choice for Christie (who will get the Republican nomination).

bret schundler?

he's available.

Donovan

Would clearly be the best pick from the point of view of winning. From his speech at BCRO tonight - he might not be burdened with extraneous motives.

Christie's Arrogance

Mark Rushmore, Last nights speech by Christie was an insult to Republicans and he should have never been afforded such a platform on his own. His speech was full of vague feel good platitudes where he mentioned the word Republican only once. Most people in the room wanted to hear a platform , list of core beliefs . They wanted something to follow. They got ZERO. The last straw was Christie's  refusal to mingle and shake hands and take photos with the county committee members. His Q/A where he picked his staff to ask softball questions was another big mistake.

Kathleen Donovan and Jen Beck

Perhaps Kathleen Donovan and Jen Beck should be running in the primary.

Who will Merkt pick for Lt. Gov.?

Christie does not have a lock on the nomination, although this web site has been pushing his candidacy for more than seven years. He is burdened with his own weight and John Ashcroft. Rick Merkt is still the most attractive statewide candidate. A fiscal conservative and a social moderate who has substance and ideas. Who will Merkt pick for Lt. Gov.?

Ft Lee Republican's self involvement

Once again, the Ft Lee Republican has provided a clear illustration of everything that is wrong with the Republican party in NJ.

Most people in the room with thrilled with what they heard, optimistic about the campaign and the chances for a republican win and patient enough to know that specifics will be forthcoming soon enough and were not appropriate for short introductory comments at a county committee meeting.

Sounds like our friend from Fort Lee either has an agenda supporting another candidate, or is miffed that they didn't get stroked enough. It's all about "look at me" and "pay attention to me" rather than what is best for the party.

It's hard to win with losers continually stirring up a ruckus.

establishment lacky's

GniPGnOP sounds like you too have an agenda. Many cc members who are not great fans of Lonegan came there last night with the hope of   hearing a powerful speech about the difference between Republicans and Democrats.

Some of us wanted a Reaganesque tone about smaller government and fidelity to some basic Republican principles. Many of us in the middle left disgusted and disappointed. Last nights debacle was all about Christie and nothing about the party or the party faithful . He Just lost my vote. After last night I will be voting ABC = Anyone But Christie

Den Lev

From what I can see Denny Levinson is a solid choice. He is a good GOPer-rarely thinks outside the box-but he has been elected and reelected. I dont know how easy it would be for him to raise money

Beck For LG

Most,....most all of the names in this story are potentially good candidates for Lt. Gov. Of course some are better than others, like Crowley, Donovan and Baroni but by far the best is Jeniffer Beck. Not only does Senator Beck have the politcal knowlege and abilities that a right of center political leader should, she also has the   commonsense approach to government and personality that New Jerseyans need more of.

In her own right Jennifer Beck won elections when and where other Republicans were losing and her ability to attract more than just Republicans over to her way of thinking is just what we will need to win in November.

If you don't believe me, just check the draft Jennifer Beck for Lt. Gov site at

http://jenniferbeckforltgovernor.wordpress.com/

.........and sign thre petition to persuade the GOP nominee for Governor to pick her for the job

Don't worry folks

This whole discussion is academic. Chris won't even be in the race in a few weeks. Let's see what he shows on his ELEC report tomorrow. That's what's going to separate the man from the boys.

Don't worry folks

That may be so Mountaintop but even if that is the case, Jennifer Beck will still make for one of the best possible choices that anyone could choose for the job.

Yeah, she's gotten so much

done. Way to go.

Jennifer Beck is more like the

"barren Sarah Palin" or the "brunette Ann Coulter" She's both stupid and mean. She's done nothing to address our state's sinking economy and shown no leadership.

Beck

Is not at all what she and what her oh so cleverly pseudonamed champion think she is. She is out of her league. She is not personable in the least and her name ID is probably less than Christie's statewide.

Beck

SJBlue.......you are correct that Senator Beck may be more suitable for the major leagues such as U.S. as opposed to the minor league liberals have made out of the state legislature. But as for as the rest of your inane commentary, what are you on? "Not persaonable"?. I will assume that not only do you not know what you are talking about, but you also do not know who you are talking about. As for name ID, she has higher name ID than did Jon Corzine when he first ran for the United States Senate, Jim McGreevey before he first ran for Governor in 1997 and higher name ID than did Christie Whitman before she ran for the United States senate against Bill Bradley. You should really know what you write about before you write.

May God bless America and provide us with the strength and perseverance necessary to thwart and eliminate the hidden cowards among us.

Kemp

Condescending tone aside, I have a degree in Public Administration (Government Affairs) from the Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania. I believe Sen. Beck might be an alum as a matter of fact. Trust me when I say I know what I'm talking about. She in nails on a chalkboard to most of the NJ voters that know her. She isnt even in the Busch League.

SJBlue

Bloviations regarding titles and unused degrees aside, so what?

I have a degree too.

It is called experience and having managed campaigns ("Public Administration") and managed legislative offices as cheif of staff ("Government Affairs"), "tust me" when "I say" that "I know, "what I am talking about". When you have put together a winning campaign or two and actually implemented any of the knowlege that your degree has supposedly taught you, maybe, just maybe I would take any of your unsubstantiated claims seriously.

Until then contrary, to your attempt to describe Beck as unliked, Democrats in Red Bank crossed their party line to make her the first Republican to serve on the Red Bank council in over a decade. Shortly after that, Democrats in her legislative district saw it fit to again cross party lines and defeat incumbent State Senator Ellen Karcher and make Jen Beck the senator.

So it would seem that your degree failed you. It would seem that the nails on the chalkboard that you are hearing are the tips of the fingers being used to write a big "F" next to your hypothesis.

You would think that such a well educated and politically well versed elitist such as yourself, would understand the value of Beck's record and accomplishment. I would think that along the way, your degree allowed you to understand that people appreciate reforms such as measures that would make government more transparent, or eliminate double dipping and the abuse of publicly funded insurance programs. I would think that a learned individual such as yourself would see the value in a fiscally conservative record that reins in government rather than set it loose to spend more than taxpayers have to spend. All of which are part of the Beck record.

But I guess degrees are not as good as they use to be.

Perhaps a nightime, contuing education degree would bring you up to date?

May God bless America and provide us with the strength and perseverance necessary to thwart and eliminate the hidden cowards among us.
