Conservative group endorses Doherty for state senate

Assemblyman Michael Doherty is seeking the State Senate seat of U.S. Rep.-elect Leonard Lance

The Conservatives with Attitude(CWA)Executive Committee today announced its unanimous endorsement of Assemblyman Michael Doherty (R-Washington)to fill the New Jersey State Senate seat vacated by Congressman-elect/state Sen. Leonard Lance (R-Hunterdon).

“Assemblyman Doherty is a pro-taxpayer, pro-family conservative who
believes in smaller government, lower taxes, and personal responsibility,” said Michael Illions, co-executive director of Conservatives with Attitude. “He is a true, Back to Basics Republican with the voting record to prove it.”

Conservatives with Attitude celebrated the four-term Doherty for his multiple endorsements from conservative, pro-business, and pro-family organizations including the New Jersey Right to Life and the National Rifle Association.

“Assemblyman Doherty is the clear choice to serve in the New Jersey
State Senate representing the 23rd District,” Illions said. “His
experience as the senior Assemblyman from the district coupled with
his voting record and unwavering values and principles are needed more
than ever in the Senate, and we look forward to the breath of fresh
air he will be both in the upper chamber and in the Republican Caucus.

“This endorsement signifies that Conservatives with Attitude is
prepared to dedicate all of its resources, both financial and
organizational, to assist Assemblyman Doherty in his campaign,” Illions added.

Dohery is expected to battle Assemblywoman Marcia Karrow (R-Flemington) for Lance's vacated seat.

There's a shocker...

This endorsement means absolutely nothing.

Illions is a tool who endorsed Whitman in the 7th CD Primary and then whined like a big baby that Lance's campaign payed no attention to him and complained over Lance's view on abortion..apparently forgetting the fact that he endorsed Whitman.

Then he announced he was supporting Hsing, essentially rooting for liberal Linda Stender to win so a "conservative" could win the seat two years later.

So basically, Doherty is getting an endorsement from a group whose head essentially campaigned against Lance.

Doherty is a joke in his own right, he would do major damage to Tom Kean's cohesiveness among the bright and strong new direction of the Senate Republicans and ruin their frequent united message. He would frequently make scenes like he did in the Assembly (like when he questioned the reality of Global Warming in a meaningless rhetoric driven diatribe) and showcase why having an idiot as the loudest voice for Senate Republicans is not a good idea.

Even worse, he has a poor work ethic as evident that he was too lazy to continue his own US Senate run just like his many runs for higher office before that and that everytime he speaks it turns into some yelling rant.

It's obvious that he will best Karrow in any primary because he is a nut and from the most republican part of the state, I just wish good luck to the Senate Republicans who now have to deal with him.

backwardsjersey is a joke

lets all laugh out loud together. Damaging Tom Keans Cohesivness ? was that the same cohesivness in the 2006 election slaughter?. Backwardsjersey with his cap in trade wants America to go cap in hand to the Chinaman and to the Eurowimp. After Obamas economic disaster comes to America. NJ will scream out for the likes of  Doherty.

Doherty is the right man for the job

He has been a staunch advocate for his constituency and he reflects their views as indicated by his high vote returns. If we were all only so fortunate to have a taxpayer champion as our representative. Hopefully he can take those things to the Senate and help the Republicans be a choice from the Democrats.

Go Doherty!

Where have you been broy?

Apparently not paying attention to the solid job Senator Kean is doing as Senate Minority Leader.

Even this website noted that a Democrat observed that Kean has come a long way from the guy who ran for US Senate in 2006.

It may have taken a beating from a Hudson County politician to give Kean the seasoning and tough edge he has now to be a strong Senate Minority Leader.

Notice how many times they've issued joint statements as one solid body in opposition to new spending and against Corzine proposals. Notice the sales-tax break effort plan for the holidays that got more media attention than any Republican plan in years.

I could go on and on with examples, but you get the point. The Senate Republicans are proving to be an effective bunch of intelligent individuals who have given Senate Democrats one hell of a tough opponent. They even have them beat on internet outreach and netroots now. (For example: Take one look at the Senate Republican website)

The point is they are a good group who works together well, Doherty will do nothing to help them as he is only out for himself and will undermine their united message. Plus all the media and the press love to go to the loudest people, even if they are idiots like Doherty.

11/10/08 4:55 pm

Backwards ...joint statements

are as numerous as sand on a beach. So called intelligent morons have screwed us out of our hard earned money and liberty for years. Kean still has not learned how to articulate the issues with passion and meaning. We have all seen what the Whitmans   have done as a group. We need the Doherty's to buck the system and to fight for real Americans.

Joint Statements

Wow, Kean issued joint statements? No way thats like amazing!! That carries so much weight in the political arena. Kean has made no progress as a Senate leader, if his greatest accomplishment is issuing joint statements I am embarassed he was picked on the GOP side.

11/10/08 5:24 pm

The point is..

They've come up with solid proposals on the economy and transportation funding and those proposals have solidified the group more so then in the past. Joint statements is a small issue, but it's one of the many improvements that the Senate Republicans have had. You may call them small and insignifant but combine them all and you have a potent force for opposition. Just wait until re-districting and the 2011 races, Kean will not disappoint in recruiting candidates and going head to head with Codey.

Just because he's not loud and obnixious and a nut like Doherty (or Lonegan), doesn't mean he's not an effective leader.

The problem is Doherty's views represent the most extreme faction of Republicans and conservatives tired of losing think the only solution is to stake out positions on the extreme right hand side and purge the party of moderates. Yet this is the same exact conservatism that has been rejected numerous times in states with constituency's much redder than New Jersey.

Kean is the last thing from Whitman. Don't discriminate him just because of who his father was. Judge him on his current efforts and let go of 2006, he has grown much since and learned how to better communicate his message.

I'd say let Doherty run statewide and see how a "true conservative" does in this state just to finally shut up all the ignorant people who think New Jersey is some secret conservative bastion. But he's lazy and will never elevate to any office above State Senate..who knows if he even has the work ethic for that. He's just lucky he lives in such a Republican district.

11/10/08 5:52 pm

I think backwardsjersey made

I think backwardsjersey made a good point by saying we should allow Doherty to run state wide to quiet the people who believe NJ is a secret conservative bastion. I'm tired of hearing the same old tired excuse by conservatives that they never win because a true conservative never runs.

And of course, by conservative, I mean the new conservatives who have been hijacked by the religious movement. Not traditional conservatives in the mold of Barry Goldwater or Ronald Reagan in his early years.

11/10/08 7:05 pm

Does anybody know . . .

. . . the combined vote total for "Jersey Joe" Pennacchio and "Maverick Murray" Sabrin against a washed-up lawyer-lobbyist with no money to spend and only a few weeks to campaign in the GOP US Senate primary last Spring?

11/10/08 9:03 pm

Combined..

Beat Zimmer, but then you'd have to make the argument that Murray supporters would have backed Pennacchio which isn't a total sell because most of Murray's people were Ron Paul folks. I think they woulda stayed home if he wasn't in the race and not supported Pennacchio.

There's no doubt a few conservatives went for Sabrin that would have went for Pennacchio, but would have it been enough to beat Zimmer?

I don't think so.

Jersey Joe just didn't sell himself well enough, not even among his own base. Next time don't use a retarded jingle that is better placed in the 1970s. Of course he had the excuse that the state party screwed him and the county lines (which were pretty even) hurt him, despite the fact that people jumped the line in Hunterdon and Somerset to back Zimmer over him.

Typical "conservative" - make excuses for losing an election and blame everyone else but yourself. If a candidate is good enough, people will jump the lines, true Conservatives will admit Schundler demonstrated that in 01'.

11/14/08 1:11 am

Doherty will win easily

And guess what? The rest of the Senate GOP caucus will be just like him in about twelve months, other than Baroni, who will become a Democrat after he endorses Corzine's reelection.

The result will be a GOP Senate Majority in 2011 and it will be 21 without Baroni. The first pickup will be in November 2009 when the Adler seat flips to the GOP.

11/11/08 12:02 am

Kean Jr.

Although you can go back and forth if Kean Jr. is a good leader. The point is he is surrounded by a bunch of losers who have no drive or energy.

No matter how many good proposals he comes up with, no one will ever hear them because the GOP is full of unmotivated hacks who are just meeting minimum requirements to stay in their positions. The Dems control the media with no challenge from the GOP.

11/11/08 10:10 am

At least...

Doherty shows that he's got a pair. So maybe he is too far to the right on every issue, but at least he fights for what he belives in. This state needs someone with a little fire in their belly, and if you call that an idiot then I say give me an idiot. It just wasn't the right time for Doherty to run for US senate, a loss could have been a major setback to his carrer. I definitly wouldn't go as far as calling him lazy, figuring that he is probably going door to door right now fighting for county commitee votes. Mike Doherty is a proven leader and an American Patriot, more men like him would make New Jersey and this country a better place.
