Booker goes one for two on the night
By Max Pizarro, PolitickerNJ.com ReporterNEW BRUNSWICK – Newark Mayor Cory Booker and U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone (D-Long Branch) did some microphone tag team in the build-up to what everyone here seems to read as an imminent Obama victory.
“I am so proud that the candidate who is going to be our victor is someone about whom they said it can’t be done,” said Booker. “In America, we are a place of impossible dreams.”
Pallone shouted, “We’re going to end this war! We’re going to have universal healthcare.”
The crowd starts chanting, “Obama! Obama! Obama!,” then brings down the house when CNN declares Ohio for Obama. “Ohio! Ohio! Ohio!”
The word out of the Central Ward wasn't good for Booker's local candidate, however.
Former Councilman Charles Bell defeated Booker's candidate, Eddie Osborne, by a vote of 4,838 to 4,227.
