Lautenberg bonds with Bikers for Obama

Lautenberg rallies with Bikers for Obama: Politicker photoLautenberg rallies with Bikers for Obama: Politicker photo WEST ORANGE - The leather-clad bikers roared into the parking lot, revving overtime - and they kept coming, motley in motion, mufflers drowning out the after effects of rhetoric, the noise near to deafening - as a senatorial figure with a shock of white hair practically broke from his handlers and strode down among them.

He looked so senatorial, in fact, that - was it actually...

Yes, it was definitely 84-year old U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-Cliffside Park) emerging from the opening of the Obama campaign’s West Orange headquarters and personally welcoming a newly formed Essex County club, Bikers for Obama, which this morning numbered about 200 strong.

U.S. Rep. Donald Payne (D-Newark) joined the senator, jumping aboard a Harley as one of the bikers outfitted Lautenberg with a leather vest.

The last engine died. The last kick stand was kicked into place. The bikes and men and women and cargo gathered round.

"Thanks everybody for supporting Obama because you’re supporting your country," said Lautenberg, standing beside Payne in the middle of the circle of Obama supporters.

Cheers.

"Just look at these two guys," he said, conjuring the presidential candidates. "One wants to fight and the other one wants to think. One wants to be angry and nasty and the other wants to make the country a better place. On one side we see name-calling, character assassination, and nothing that speaks to helping America through this crisis, and on the other side, we see a positive image of what America can and should be - and that’s Obama.

Payne climbs aboard an unguarded Harley: Politicker photoPayne climbs aboard an unguarded Harley: Politicker photo "What Obama brings is dignity - through his elegance, through his remarks, through his intelligence," the senator added. "That’s what we want in this country. And it’s a transformational moment. ...And I want to say something. I want to thank all of you."

As Payne stood tall in his own saddle, Lautenberg said with a devilish grin, "This is the nicest gift I’ve ever gotten," and acted like he was about to suddenly swing up a leg and make off with another one of the bikes.

On a statewide day of action, Lautenberg - who’s running for re-election against former U.S. Rep. Dick Zimmer - and Payne joined U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-Paterson), other elected officials, Obama senior policy advisor Mark Alexander, and volunteer canvassers here this morning at the opener in a West Orange strip mall.

"Volunteers are going out to knock on doors," said Essex County Democratic Chairman Phil Thigpen. "They’ll do some voter registration, but mostly they’ll just let people know that Obama is running with their support. By the last weekend of this month they will have knocked on 50,000 doors. It’s young people for the most part, who enlisted and were recruited as a result of the candidate. They’re all doing a very good job."

The inaugural speeches over, Pascrell was the first elected out the door to go "box with FOX" on the Neil Cavuto Show, and that’s when the bikers landed on the scene.

Bikers for Obama

Considering the quality of people that Sen. Obama has demostrated he enjoys socializing with, perhaps after the election these bikers can act as crowd control at a Rolling Stones concert at Altimont Speadway.

Zimmer

Maybe somebody should wake Dick up and remind him there is an election and he is running.

Is there even going to be a debate?

Calling Latenberg old is silly at this point because he has 100% more energy then ZZZZZ Zimmer and the State GOP at this point.

Liberalberg

He is a typical liberal (and using an Obama tactic) who voted 97% of the time with his party. He voted in favor of increased taxes, Setting a date of withdrawl from Iraq (i.e. telegraphing our plans so that the opposition can plan for their increased efforts after we're gone, then we would need to re-deploy.... smart plan Dems), socialized medicine, increased spending, etc etc etc. He is nothing but a typical tax and spend liberal NJ politican. I agree that we need change, but that change needs to be smaller government, stronger military, lower taxes, lower spending, fiscal conservativism, free market solutions for healthcare, and getting away from GSE's that the Dems have pushed - ending in this fiasco of a financial meltdown we now find ourselves in.

Frank was located at ... the bikers rally!

Frank has been found at the bikers rally. Apparently, these bikers are for Obama, so that was OK. Otherwise the old fool might have been roughed up. Then, Frank proceeded to make his pitch to them as if unsure which bikers they are: “"One wants to fight and the other one wants to think. One wants to be angry and nasty and the other wants to make the country a better place. On one side we see name-calling, character assassination, and nothing that speaks to helping America through this crisis, and on the other side, we see a positive image of what America can and should be.” Was Frank talking about himself and Zimmer?

The RAY-GUN era is dead as a door nail, just like RONALD RAY-GUN himself. Time for the republiCANTS to put their tails between their legs and prepare for a good ol' election day whoopin'.

GO FRANK GO

Interesting how the GOP making comments here have nothing more to say then stupid insults and cracks about Lautenberg's age! All of you wish you could be that healthy and effective even at your current ages. Lautenberg points out something crucial - that all the GOP has, at the leadership of McCain, is sophmoric, personal attacks that have no relevance to what real people are going through. McCain and Zimmer think they are going to win by not talking about the economy, health care etc but instead just being obnoxious idiots like most of the people commenting here - it's a culture that Repub's are proud of for some reason - but what do you expect from the party that espouses hate towards gays, indifference towards poor people and anyone different than them? King of the dems - chang your name because you certainly have no business referring to yourself as a democrat! I hope when you're old (and still living in your mommy's basement with your blow up doll)people criticize you for your age. Same goes for you RedJerseyMom - and motown repub - put down your copy of the GOP Talking Points Handbook and get a clue - if it were that easy it would've been done by now. I am thankful we have Senator Lautenberg working so hard for us!

Lautenberg & bikers..I must by having a nightmare

I cannot believe there are any bikers in this country who would be caught dead with Sen.Lautenberg, never mind having their picture taked with him...This is the same Senator who has been pushing for a National mandatory Helmet law since its repeal back in the mid 90's...I cannot believe with all the sweat and hard work some of us have done to stop him that there are some riders who would even go near him, never mind smile and have their pictures taken with him..This picture reminds me of an old quote..We've seen the enemy and the enemy is us.
