Lance steamed by what he says is Stender's three debate dodge

Frustrated by what he sees as his opponent’s unwillingness to debate in multiple forums, State Sen. Leonard Lance (R-Hunterdon) today chided his 7th Congressional District opponent, Assemblywoman Linda Stender (D-Fanwood), for canceling or refusing three district-wide debates.

“During this economic crisis, voters across Central New Jersey deserve to hear the candidates talk face-to-face about the future of New Jersey,” Lance said in a statement. “We should be having more debates, not fewer. I call on Assemblywoman Stender to stop hiding behind her false and negative advertising and join me on the stage in front of voters in addressing the important issues of the day.”

Lance said he is particularly disappointed with Stender’s decision to cancel their Oct. 24 AARP debate, where he hoped to clarify his views on Social Security. The Lance campaign also noted Stender’s no thanks to debate invitations by the Westfield Leader newspaper and the Gateway Union County Chamber of Commerce. Stender fired back a reminder that the candidates are scheduled for a television showdown next week.

“This is pretty ridiculous considering we are having a debate next Tuesday, live on Channel 12,” said Stender spokeswoman Irene Lin. “We also have a candidate's forum in Hunterdon County scheduled.”

Slush Fund Stender

Stender was invited to join today's edition of power and politics on ch12, but she declinded (once again). But Lance was there discussing his sound approach to the economic issues and wanting to push assisting "main st" during this time of tight credit to individuals and small businesses.

He is a moderate who will try to accomplish real progress in the house if elected. With that said, he is a strong fiscal conservative who believes that it is spending that is out of control (in NJ and with the Fed gov't) and he is for restricting this crazy spending spree. He is a big believer in transparency in government spending and earmark reform.

I have met him and was struck by his gentle nature, an ego that appeared to be in-check, and what seemed to be a genuine desire to do the right thing for his constituents, his state, and his country.

He is someone that all voters can vote for and be proud of.

Good interview today Sen. Lance !! You seem to be a true gentleman.

Stender is a nightmare

Linda Stender is the epitome of the corrupt out of touch political class we have in NJ. As a Union Contry Freeholder and now in the Assembly, she's always put the interests of herself and her party before the taxpaying citizen she's supposed to represent. It's no surprise she's ducking debates with Lance. He's had a long history of fighting for the taxpayer and even successfully sued twice to block illegal borrowing schemes by the Governor.

Stender's history on the other hand, is coming back to haunt her. Never seen a tax or fee hike she did not support, and also steered no bid contract business to her husband. We just can't afford any more elected officials like Linda Stender.
