TRENTON - Wall Street is melting down while President George W. Bush fundraises in Colts Neck for candidates who will continue his failed policies, argued Democrats at a Statehouse press conference this afternoon.
State Democratic Chairman Joseph Cryan stood with congressional candidates, Assemblywoman Linda Stender (D-Fanwood) and professor Joshua Zeitz of Bordentown. They all whiplashed Republicans for allowing Bush to come and raise money in a state where the latest Strategic Vision poll shows the president with a 20 percent job approval rating.
"My opponent agrees with George Bush that privatization is something we should be pursuing," Stender said of her 7th District GOP opponent, state Sen. Leonard Lance (R-Hunterdon).
"instead of the president talking with people in New Jersey about trust in the system, he's here helping Leonard Lance," Stender said.
A $10 billion a-month war in Iraq. A $700 billion bailout package for Wall Street. These are the dual legacies of Bush, the Democrats argued.
"The Republican Party has grown arrogant and incompetent," said Zeitz, who's challenging veteran U.S. Rep. Chris Smith in the 4th Congressional District.
In addition to Lance, Bush plans to raise money today for 3rd Congressional District candidate Chris Myers, who serves as mayor of Medford, and who is fighting state Sen. John Adler (D-Camden) for a chance to succeed U.S. Rep. Jim Saxton.
The president's Colts Neck fundraiser is located at a private home in Colts Neck, which sits in Smith's congressional district.
"What a perverse irony," said Cryan. "We are in the midst of an economic crisis of historic proportion and George Bush comes to New Jersey to raise campaign money for Republicans who support his economic policies. No wonder they want to keep the event private. It serves as a reminder of who is to blame and as a warning that little will change if Bush Republicans such as Mr Myers and Mr Lance go to Washington."

Stender the Snob
Did you see her at the Debate with her Glasses on the top of her nose while she looks down her nose on the little people ? what an elitist. Another stupid lib that cant say the words Constitutional Republic.
Zeitz icompetent
First of all Josh Zeitz is running the worst campaign in the history of New Jersey politics. His campaign is actually run worst then Seema Singhs was when she was crushed last year and that is really bad.The campaign strategy of trying to link President Bush to independent thinking GOP candidiates is so old that it has become laughable.Joshs campaign who claimed to have the ability to raise 1 million dollars has about 100,000 dollars in the bank ear marked for Democratic "consultants".The sad part of it all is Josh will get promoted at Rutgers and will be taken care of by the Democratic Party bosses and the New Jersey tax payers will again foot the bill.
Presumably ...
...these august candidates will refuse to be seen in the presence of Jon Corzine, who just presided over the investment of scarce pension dollars in the soon-to-be-bankrupt Lehman Brothers. The Dems stood with McGreevey, Codey, and Corzine as they bankrupted the state, turned us into a tax hell, and ruined the economy. And they have the unmitigated gall to criticize Bush? Next to the Trenton Democrats, Bush looks like a financial genius.
Maybe Sam Harris is right about one thing...
the ad hominem attacks on Stender are particularly typical of the demeaning ways Republicans in this state and across the nation not so subtly suggest that they would rather have a beer-drinking, best-bud everyday american as their legislator or executive. What exactly are we so afraid of when we decry elitism? Education? Professionalism? An elected official that's smarter than we are? Anti-elitism gave birth to George Bush, and we all know how that turned out. It's likely that Republicans do not even know what they're saying when they use the term elitist (especially since some of us on this discussion board think that wearing glasses is a sufficient criterion)
nicely said, GOP Mercer
Clearly, when they passed No Child Left Behind, GOP Mercer got left behind. Here's some advice, GOP Mercer: if you want to issue an effective political attack, learn how to read and write standard English. It's, "his campaign is run worse," not (as you wrote it) "his campaign is run worst." The possessive requires an apostrophe (as in, "Seema Singh's," and "Josh's"). A campaign is not a person; it's an entity. Wally, can we make all commentators pass a basic English standards test before they're granted comment privileges? Let's hope that, whichever candidate wins, be he Smith or Zeitz, he gets a special ed earmark for GOP Mercer and friends.
How ironic!
"What a perverse irony," said Cryan. "We are in the midst of an economic crisis of historic proportion and George Bush comes to New Jersey to raise campaign money for Republicans who support his economic policies.” Did Cryan just say Bon Jovi? Did Cryan just say Obama and his $4 million take from New Jersey, “We are in the midst of an economic crisis of historic proportion”? These guys are real con artists, if you ask me. Take when it is convenient for them, condemn when it is not. Is that called DEMOcracy?
Democrats are so laughable
The fundraiser featuring President Bush is costing people $1,000 a plate. It costs $5,000 for a pic with the president. The Obama fundraiser at Jon Bon Jovi's house was $32,000 a plate, and they are calling REPUBLICANS out on being rich and elite? They're a joke, they really are. Obama and Biden are sniping at each other today and they are on the same TICKET. Laughable.
