'B' line strength for Lautenberg makes hard challenge for Adubato/Andrews

NEWARK - The Essex County Democratic Committee want voters to make a beeline to the "B" line in today’s election, which features battles at all levels in a political environment that so far can be characterized by very low-turnout.

The ‘B’ line, full with local name-candidates, makes it tough for North Ward Democratic leader Steve Adubato, whose candidate for U.S. Senate, U.S. Rep. Rob Andrews, is running alone on the ‘A’ line.

As he headed into the Flamboyan for an organization report on morning voter turnout, the boss said, "We’re in a weird situation. I’m worried, I’m telling you, because we’re pushing the ‘B’ line except for one exception. How do you do that? We’re trying."

The committee has robocalls ongoing targeting 150,000 voters countywide, according to committee spokesman Lionel Leach.

U.S. Rep Donald Payne (D-10) went up shortly after 11 a.m. today, urging voters to vote the "B" line, for himself, U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg and other line "B" organizational candidates.

Payne’s voice joined a robocall chorus that includes Sen. President Richard Codey, state Sen. Ronald Rice, Mayor Cory Booker and all of the Essex County mayors who back Lautenberg in his U.S. Senate primary war with Andrews.

"I think Lautenberg’s going to win by ten points," said Rice in committee headquarters on the 14th floor of the Robert Treat Hotel. "Statewide."
